The boy was playing with other children in the backyard of the premises and suffered serious facial injuries in the attack, while his father was also bitten several times on the leg as he tried to free his son. The boy was taken to Campbelltown Hospital before being transferred to Westmead Children's Hospital in a stable condition, while his father also was treated at hospital. The dog was surrendered to Campbelltown Council by the owner and will be destroyed. Edited December 31, 2012 by samoyedman

Rebanne
That poor little boy How I wish people would lock up dogs when kids visit. Away from this forum I dont know anyone who does, just so risky. I was locking my dogs up long before I found DOL. I had GSD and no way were they going to be put at risk because my child and friends wanted to play. Poor little boy, hope he recovers well. Clyde
I have to admit, ten yrs or ago I didn't. I didn't know any better, but also cant think of any visiting kids back then. I have a kid coming over this avo for a play, the dogs go in their runs and padlocked as I dont trust other kids not to go in for a pat.

Well with GSD's I was always aware on how other people thought about them. Plus my daughter had a friend who was terrifed of dogs and no way was I going to risk a false accusation. If the dogs were locked up they couldn't be blamed for scaring her or knocking her over. Parents freaked cause I let an 8 week old puppy run around in the same room as the kids and I. We have to be second guessing other's actions all the times and try to not leave anything to chance. Re freaking because an 8 week old puppy is playing around ..... Hate to think of the messages those parents are sending. My heart goes out to yet another toddler and parents and dog for being embroiled in a terrifying situation which could so easily have been avoided - in hindsight.
mita
What DD said. The risk factors are so well established... this 2 year old was in the highest risk age group. Same for the location... the bites/attacks are either on family property or on properties of friends/acquaintances. As others have posted, they know the basics & take preventive measures. I hope the little boy recovers well.
