Play With Your Dog

This is a new citizen science dog study that has just been launched. The request is that anyone around the world film themselves playing with their dog for about a minute and submit the video so that researchers can study how people and dogs play together.

Not sure what researchers are going to get out of this. There is no way that I could put in a one minute video all the ways I play with my dogs.

I wonder if the videos then become THEIR property.

It will be interesting for the researchers to look at the kind of thing that people send in, when asked to send just 1 minute, too.

For research, that's why?

I play and wrestle with my dogs - well one of them. I invite them to play and they can always move away. They are never held down. I pish and growl and i get mouthed - never, ever has he hurt of even scratched me. It is an important part of our relationship and is very useful for getting the riled up for agility.

It's not exactly a big secret. More information about the context of this study in the lab's broader research interests can be found here:http://crl.ucsd.edu/~ahorowit/dogresearch You can always e-mail the researchers and ask them if you have questions. It's a well-known canine behaviour lab. If lots of people contribute they can learn plenty from 1 minute of video. They don't need a complete documentation of every kind of play a single person engages in with their dog to learn stuff.
