I'm going to jump in to this!

I have been nagging at my club and finally they are having a meeting about starting Rally O training and we have someone coming over to show us the ropes (the closest club is over an hour each way otherwise, to far to commit to going to ontop of normal clubs!)

1. start the dogs in Rally training

2. work on teaching Blue to retrieve (see other thread!)

3. continue with groundwork basics with Vala, working more on focus

4. return to agility training when funds allow

5. practise regularly for May when Blue and I have our first obedience show classes!

I'm finally home so time to make some goals for 2013....

Agility

Whilst Ziggy is clearly more experienced and confident on trial day, Em is coming along nicely...

Ziggy and Em:

Independent contacts

Continue with the success of independent weaves from 2012.

Keep it light, fun and work on speed. I'd rather a fast, fun NQ or DQ than a careful Q.

Me:

Remember how different these 2 dogs are....Ziggy's idea of supportive handling is Em's idea of feeling crowded and stressed.

Work on trialling like we train. STOP BABYSITTING :hitself:

Retrieving

With 2 Novice wins and a massive confidence boost for both of us, 2012 was a wonderful year. One more win and she'll be in Restricted but, on the advice of a fellow competitor, we will train for beyond that.

Em and Me:

Aim for All Age.

Keep working on handling and marking drills, particularly in water.

Tighten those sits up.

Stick with doubles at the moment but progress to triples by the end of the year

Keep whistle in my mouth. Always.

Slow down - Em is running faster and harder so I need to take my time sending and casting.

Steward at the Vic State and National Trials. If Em is absolutely firing I'd consider entering the State Trial but won't have to make that decision for another 6 months.

Obedience

No pressure on this one - much depends on how much time we have. Zig is ready for Open and put in a nice round at the Dally Nationals. Need to proof his dumbbell retrieve (ironic when you consider Em's retrieving skills ) and his stays. Would love to do Novice with Em but really not sure that we can find the time.....might save this for when she slows down one day :)

In 2013 I am not going to be too ambitious because Zora and I will be having part of the year off for a litter ( :D ).

Here are my goals:

-Finish RN Title :cheer:

-Aim for RA (maybe even RE)

-Enter CCD

-Get ready for trialling in agility early 2014

Lastly this is a BIG maybe...

-Enter a UG Field Trial

YAY RV! She worked beautifully for you too. I had never seen a Brittany before I met Zora, and am now fast becoming a big fan for the breed!

Now on to CCD and RA work :-)

Esky

Become more competitive in racing.

Pull HARD the whole track.

Place in a 1 dog class

and / or WIN a touring class

Pull on command in weightpull

Pull over 250kg

Pull 10x Body Weight

Pull 20x Body Weight

Pull 25x Body Weight

Endurance Test Title

and the laughable long shot is entering a rally comp

Me

Lose more weight / gain fitness to help with racing.

Be more encouraging, lower my expectations.

Get to an interstate race

Join an obedience club ( if work permits)

Get 'F Dog' ( Maybe a 2014 goal)

Well we've achieved something off this list OMG!

Technically pulling 10x body weight and 250kg ended up being the same thing.

Esky is bang on 25kg at the moment.

We had weightpull introductory night last night.

I went along to build confidence pulling the cart and just get her back into things

The set up wasn't ideal, so I didn't want to push her any harder than that.

Hoping for a good year of weightpull :D

I think it may even have been her PB

Just checked and yes it is her PB :D

Alright, pretty sure I have my goals sorted now!

For me, it is to train one dog each day, for 10 minutes a day. For relationship buidling, mental stimualtion, and because they thoroughly enjoy it. And my individual goals for them:

Cherry

Even though she's now retired, I might put her in a Rally-O comp now and then just for fun, but my main goal for her is to give her the best and most comfortable retirement!

Rusty

Get his ET title

CD

Get him reliably trained with the dumbell

Get a Q in ADX

Get a Q in ADO and JDO

Get a title in one of the games

Have him doing nice tight turns by the end of the year, and keeping up his good contacts and weave poles.

Biscuit

Get AD title

Compete in a tracking trial

Keep up good weave pole performance, teach tight turns and work on distance work.

Let's all have the funnest year yet

Yay first comp of the year and 2 goals achieved! :D Just gotta nail those weaves for an agility quallie

Good job to everyone else achieveing their goals

I would like Mindy to get some novice agility titles.

She has started working very well towards the end of this year and we have one Q in each of novice agility, jumping, snooker and gamblers and 2 in strategic pairs.

So hopefully this is a realistic goal for us, I guess a lot will depend on my work and how much time I have to train her.

I think agility will be our focus, but I'd also really like to start retrieving and perhaps do some retrieving ability trials. I'd also like to do some tracking.

Mindy now has her AD JD GD and SPD  Just needs SD to have all of her novice agility titles! It doesn't seem as popular as the other games though so there aren't as many opportunities.

Haven't gotten around to doing any retrieving yet unfortunately.

Depends Roxy - jumping is fairly straight forward and if you have good control and the dog is handler responsive without to many major issues you could probably get around a novice jumping course by September.

Ok here goes...

Zamba - nothing to achieve, but keep giving her a chance to train just because she loves it so much. At 13 years old she gets to sit on the couch and sleep in the bedroom these days. Special privileges reserved for a dog who has spent her life being loud and very busy, and can now finally enjoy some quiet years.

Pasha - I would love to get him into an RN trial or two, and possibly a CCD trial or two. But it will depend how he is going. I would also love to get him enjoying the beach calmly, and able to do training at agility while keeping his head.

OK so my update goes like this:

Zamba - exactly on track and now 14 years old. A friend of mine said yesterday that she's the healthiest 14yo dog she's ever seen, which I am very proud of. :)

Pasha - He's not far off heading into the RN ring. I am proofing him at present and am about to start taking him along to sit around at some trial grounds as an observer, just to get him used to the environment. Still fading the lures, but I think that goal is realistic.

CCD not sure - it will depend how his stays are going.

Beach and agility - still too arousing for him and for the time being I'm happy to let these goals go on the back-burner. I will try the beach again later this year but the agility environment will be for when he is older and has more self-control.

I can't remember what my training goals for this year were...but I've taken the first step....

1. Choose Club. Check.

2. Get a puppy with which to start from scratch. Check.

Next Goals.

1. No chasing the cats.

2. Housetraining.

3. Hands and Feet are not toys.

3. Neither is any of the furniture. (or the doors, or the windows, or the screens, no digging there...you get the picture)

:D

On a more serious training note...

1. Focussed heeling with enthusiasm.

2. Start tracking training.

3. Learn to show stack like a star.

Not necessarily in that order.
