Isabella123
I'm getting my first ever puppy soon, just wondering does it needs rabies vaccination? Cause I've heard someone told me before that Australia doesn't have rabies, so vets here don't give rabies vaccine to dogs that live in Aus, don't know if that's true? dancinbcs
There is no rabies in Aust so dogs do not need to be vaccinated for it.
zeebie
Only time you need to get rabies vaccine is if like me you intend to take your dog to a rabies positive country, we went o/s with dog and as a precaution and to expedite his return to Australia this was done (at huge expense), at least now we know he has some protection against lyssavirus, which is currently the closest thing in Australia to Rabies heaven forbid we ever do get an outbreak of rabies here. Got Spots
Bat lyssa virus is causes almost exactly the same disease in humans so if you are ever bitten then you need rabies vaccination or keep the bat for testing. True rabies doesn't exist and dogs don't need vaccinating
