Should I Be Concerned?

Hi Kayla :)

The vets already think they know whats wrong with her, well as much as think it might be . I did a post in the health section a while ago.

Its just that this is starting to concern me, but maybe its normal for what she is going through atm.

She has to go back in about 5 weeks now unless she gets seriously ill before then, but she doesn't appear to be atm.. Im not sure they will have a reason other saying it could be her meds upsetting her..

I will pop in there tho in the meantime and let them know my concerns

Yes I remember your other thread. I don't have any experience with what your dog is going through, but I do understand when they get older and are taking meds it's really hard to know whether it is the meds causing the change or not. It's always worrying. :(

Hi Jules, my dog has always used 'under the bed' as her comfort place, when she is a bit our of sorts or scared. When you think about it, it the one place in the house where they know that you will end up at the end of the day, ie in bed asleep, so I guess it's a security thing - Mum will be here at the end of the day. :)

Im more and more thinking its a security thing and am putting it down to her being off colour atm with her meds etc

My cattle dog sleeps under the bed when there are storms. I call it his man cave and figure the enclosure aspect makes him feel a bit more secure.

My last dog was a cattle dog and she would hide in different places when there were storms. The Cavs are not frightened by storms or bad wind so unlike my cattle dog lol Nothing really fazes the Cavs that much. I am thinking its defiantly something shes doing too feel more secure while shes not well. Its not all the time..

Come to think of it one of our cats 'Karma' disappeared for quite a few weeks about 4 years ago (at our last house), and when she came back (she had been injured and was in total shock), she went straight under our bed and stayed there for a good couple weeks, apart from when she went to her kitty litter. . I had to put her food under there for her.

So perhaps this is just because of Renae feeling off colour and maybe shes having some side effects from the meds too.. poor girl :(

Hi Jules :)

It's a real worry when they start ageing.. It's not good for the nerves when every little thing sends us in a panic.

We have slate tiles in our hallway and Lacey lies on there when she is hot, it's been extremely hot for her :(. She suffers from the heat so I have been putting ice cubes in the drinking water.

Take her to the vet if it continues even if it's just for your peace of mind :)

not being dismissive of any health concerns you may have, but our little pom girl has also started going under the bed a lot more, and takes herself off to the bedroom for longer periods and we have attributed it solely to the weather..we have tiles too and it's cool and she is obviously more comfy there..in winter she's on our bed, but summers..she's under it. As I said, not slighting your concerns, but it might be as simple as wanting something cool to lay on.

This is exactly my Pom girl as well, you have described my exact dog.

She loves under my bed, I think she sees it as her safe hidey hole and little cave.

Perhaps Renae has discovered a new quiet hidey sleeping place. When my girl is sick and unwell I know it as she is sooking up to me and doesn't leave my side and is trying to lie up against me. That's when I know she's unwell and wanting some love and attention.

Dear little bug, it is terrible for us when they are out of sorts Jules.

My kelpie Bella just had surgery and had 1/4 of her body shaved off.

You know your little girl, though out of my four dogs Bella is the most pedantic about any change. She hates anything out of the ordinary. It takes her days to adjust to anything going on with her body. She gives me the evil eye for days even after her bath

My Dad is terminally ill and very sick. Mum and Dad's dog Annie has not left ever Dad's side, sleeps in their bed etc etc though recently she won't come into the house :(

Do you think that Renae is perhaps feeling odd with her tum shaved? or maybe it is a combo of the vet trip, shaving, meds and the heat?

If you’re worried give you vet a call, even if it is for your own peace of mind.xx

I think it is time for a vet visit for Zoe :(

Her behaviour is not normal for her. Slept under the bed again last night, barks as soon as I put her outside, lying very close to me in the house, looking a bit flat.

:(

For me thats an instant sign of a sick dog, one who won't leave my side and just sleeps and wants cuddles (when normally has energy). Hope Zoe is ok!

Hi Kiwigirl :) Renae and Joey have always coped fairly well with the heat, in fact they always want to go out in it and sunbake  Ive been putting icecubes in their water bowl too. We have mostly tiles on our floors here, and in our bedroom, so I guess maybe because of the heat now shes older, and her shaven belly and not being well, she thinks it cooler under the bed ?

LOL about your Bella.. some of their pedantic ways can be endearing too :)I hope Bella is recovering from her surgery ok ? :) Im sorry to hear about your Dad Nic B *hugs* Mine is too :( maybe in your dad's dogs case she picking up all the emotions with you Dad being ill ? Dogs can be very intuned about such things.

Yes it could also be a combo of the vet trip, shaving, meds and heat. Thats what im putting it down too ! She not showing any other sign of distress apart from her occassional shakes. Im getting a friend of mine out soon to give her some osteolign treatment (shes done it in the past on her) see if that helps in any way, cant hurt at this stage.

 best wishes Kavik, and Jules how is your little one today?

Thank you CHA.:)

She's fine, but still going under the bed, im going put it down to her wanting to feel the coolness since its been hot, and her being unwell from the meds.

Other than her shakes /mini fits, you would not think she is ill !

An update about Zoe.

Took her to the vet. She has a sore ear and some dermatitis so we are going to clear that up and see if that stops the strange behaviour. If the behaviour continues we will go back and see what else it might be.
