Luna is in need of a general check up and likely dental (her breathe is stinky and i've noticed black pigmentation on her gums which is new, the plaque isn't too bad on the outside surface where I scrape it off...but the inside is getting grotty). We also have a cat, who will eventually need a check up as well. Does anyone have recommendations for vets in the area? I'm considering going to Sydney Uni but know they are more expensive... Meea Posted November 14, 2012 Share Posted November 14, 2012 The Botany Rd vet inAlexandria is well rated and prob your closest. The uni is not more expensive but they overservice like buggary. Getting a bit disillusioned with city vets Meea, purely out of curiousity all my vets have always referred me to the Noth Shore hospital for emergencies and specialist treatments when Sydney Uni is much closer. Getting a bit disillusioned with city vets Meea, purely out of curiousity all my vets have always referred me to the Noth Shore hospital for emergencies and specialist treatments when Sydney Uni is much closer. Any idea why? Some vets "affiliate" or refer to/with emergency hospitals. My vet refers to SASH, when the Animal Referal Hospital at Homebush is closer. Any idea why? I used to live in the Eastern Suburbs and whilst I liked my old vet the older vets which I liked are starting to wind down/retire. I don't like most of the newer ones as much. Mainly because they don't seem to listen to me and don't answer questions very well. I ask lots of questions Luna has been to Sydney Uni Vet for specialist things - i.e. investigating her elevated liver enzyme levels. Both my parents dogs have been treated there during emergencies (eating a mouldy sandwich, paralysis tick and liver/heart cancer). Over servicing would mean pushing extra or additional treatments? Many vets will prefer a particular referral hospital based on which specialists are there and what their particular areas of interest are, rather than who is closest. We refer to a particular hospital because we appreciate of their style of operation and also because we are very familiar with the specialists that work there. Apart from an excellent working relationship there's not much else in the way of kick backs. In some cases, the vets may have been taught by, or previously worked with the vets they refer to. Any idea why? Whateveryone else said re relastionships The uni only started afterhours ED last year. Before that I used ARC and now I use SASH if I can get there (not immediately lifethreatening). I have been there a few times, including once in an emergency after my dog got hit by a car. They've always been good I've found. I take ten dogs there so they give me the gold client discount.
