Elise+Hudson
Hey guys, I am flying Hudson from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast in 2 weeks and need to find a crate for the plane, we usually use a collapsible wire crate. I have seen some relatively inexpensive ones online but not sure of the size I would need? He is a smaller boy and weighs 20kg. I got a quote to borrow one which was more than the cost of the flights, so need to either borrow or buy one!

FalconRange
You can hire crates at the airport from Dogtainers and JetPets etc. if that's an easier option. I hired one from Dogtainers one way and one directly from Toll Freight (emergency crate) the other. Both cost $50 to hire, and I knew they were airline approved and sturdy. piper
There has been a group started on Facebook recently called Crate Exchange to help breeders and rescuers move crates around the country as dogs often end up sent and the crate needs to be returned at some point. So this group is intended to connect those needing to move a dog with those needing crates moved. It is only new and not mant members but could be worth asking on there? https://www.facebook.com/groups/278596058928276/?fref=ts
Elise+Hudson
See my estimate from jetpets for crate hire was $215! So I thought I was better off buying a crate!
bedazzledx2
I use a Clipper 6 to fly my Aussie. Check the requirements of the airline in the small print.
FalconRange
Perhaps they thought you wanted to organise his flight through them too? $215 sounds very excessive for just crate hire!
Chris the Rebel Wolf
*brows shoot skyhigh* We sell Aussie-szed crates at my work for $90! Over two hundred is crazy for HIRE!
Elise+Hudson
I know, I definitely said crate hire only, and that is what is stated on the quote.. seems a lot though when I can buy a crate for not much more.
FalconRange
Give Dogtainers a call. Like I said, $50 for a BC sized-crate, so unless the airport factors in (Sunshine Coast may not have a lot of crates pass through there), you should hopefully find them a lot cheaper! Elise+Hudson
I will give them a call tomorrow :) I am coming back from Sunshine coast a week later, so won't be leaving a crate stranded anywhere. :D
