mixeduppup
I'm headed to Canberra tomorrow and my friend is coming, we've decided to take her two and two of mine for the ride as they need to get out and find a nice offlead dog park. Which ones would you suggest for 4 well socialised dogs all young. A Dogue, a mini foxy and 2 kelpies.
Vehs
Where in Canberra are you going? Probably wouldn't matter which one you go to - during work hours I don't expect there would be many dogs using them, but some do have agility equipment. They'll certainly appreciate a good run after a car trip :)
Staffyluv
I like Yarralumla as it has 2 fenced off areas - one for smalls and puppies and the other for big boys and girls.. I have had Ziggy in the small dog and puppy side as he gets a bit afraid of the really big dogs sometimes. But I remove him if he gets a bit loud for the little ones. I believe Casey has a great park and the one down at Tuggeranong is supposed to be OK to. The one over here in Queanbeyan leaves a bit to be desired - it is fairly newish and the trees have not grown, so not a lot of shade and it gets quite hot up there. mixeduppup
Oooo which one has the agility equipment? She said where going near Ford Way over North Side.
minimax
The one near Belconnon is sort of ok - I wasn't a huge fan of it when we were there as it was basically just a fenced in dirt patch, we ended up walking on leash around the lake instead. During the day though, if there aren't many people around it might be ok - but some of the others people have mentioned sound better.

Akayla
I thought ford had one with equipment?
wuffles
Forde has "agility" equipment. IMO it's not particularly safe for the dogs to use the equipment but each to their own! It's a tiny park though, not really enough room to run around much. And it's tan bark, not grass! Nice and quiet though :D Casey is just down the road. It's a nice big park, no equipment but lots of trees, rocks, exploring places.
Salukifan
Forde has "agility" equipment. IMO it's not particularly safe for the dogs to use the equipment but each to their own! That's the reason why you won't find it in any of the other parks. It was recommended against by the working group that helped set them up. It's unsafe if folk don't know what they are doing and frankly I think its a crash hazard in an offlead area.
mixeduppup
Casey sounds great! Hopefully we'll head to that one depending on time and where we are.
Simply Grand
Agree wuffles and HW, concrete and steel do not make for safe agility equipment!! Go to Casey or Belconnen MUP, much better for running around (not that I've been to Casey yet. Belconnen is our regular), and closest to where you'll be (other than Forde). What time will you be there? We (me and the dogs) may drop by and introduce ourselves :)
mixeduppup
That would be fantastic. Probably around 4 maybe a bit after. I'm going with my friend so you'll see two crazy ladies with an assortment of excited dogs lol. We'll head on out to Belconnen which would be easier any way and it's only to let them have a good run :) Edited October 23, 2012 by mixeduppup
Simply Grand
Cool, that's usually about when we're there anyway. It will probably be busy-ish about that time but there is an entrance down the far end as well as the one near the car park so if it's busy it might be easier to go in that way. Not too many DDBs there so I should spot you guys. I'll be the one with the noisy Sheltie, the Aussie jumping on everyone (if you hear "Quinn down" that's me) and the poodle x begging everyone for food :)
mixeduppup
Hahaha I've only ever been to an offlead park once, so it should be fun and new experience. If you hear someone Yelling "Maybe be quiet" and "Torque Here" every five seconds, that's me lol Edited October 23, 2012 by mixeduppup
Simply Grand
Heehee, sounds like we'll both be hard to miss!! Ooo just remembered, make sure you bring some poo bags, they don't supply them and you get dirty looks if you don't bag and bin (including from me ;) )
mixeduppup
We've got poo bags galore and 2 charged cameras. EXCITING!
koalathebear
Awww, I'll be at work otherwise I'd be there, too :) We go to Casey with our two every Sundays and love it. Have fun. OH doesn't like Forde at all. My two like it well enough but as other people have pointed out, it's kind of small. Some photos of Forde here. mixeduppup
Aww I'm sure we'll bring them again one day. I love Canberra and am going to try and get there when I can and i never go anywhere without a dog if I can help it lol.

I was there one day when a young Akita actually ran head first into a concrete tunnel and knocked herself out Thankfully the vet was just down the road and there was no lasting damage, but it was so scary
mixeduppup
Went to Belconnen and had a great time! Maybe kept stealing the ball that a lady was throwing for her dog, slightly embarrassing. I assured her we were working on her ball obsession lol. Torque had a great time and buddied up with a great looking Amstaff and my friends dog was the star, the sexy Dogue that he is lol. Thanks everyone
