Heartguard

Hi All,

Yesterday I gave my 4 month old puppy her first dose of Heart worm medication. We were at the vet yesterday and they recommended HeartGurad.

This morning my dog seems lethargic, and she didnt want her breakfast (This is very unlike her).

I have called the vet and they have said to keep an eye on her today and see if she gets better, otherwise to bring her in.

I just wanted to check to see if anyone else has had issues with this type of medication?

Our dog is an english staffy.

Thank you.

Heartworm tablets can make them feel a bit off, mine would vomit if I didn't feed on a full stomach.

Heartgard is just ivermectin for heartworns though are you treating with another source for the intestinal worms as well?

It's fine to treat heart worm and intestinal worms with different meds and on different days. Avoids a chemical overload. I have never noticed any of mine feeling off colour after their heartworm tablet. It could be a co-incidence.

Hi All,

Thanks for your reply's. We noticed yesterday that she was squatting a lot to wee. We took her back to the vet and turns out she has a bladder infection, so I dont think the Heartgurad was the issue at all.

She is on antibiotics and is already back to being a little terror, so happy days.

Thanks again and have a great weekend.
