persephone
I would never eat a mxy rabbit . Any creature with pus oozing from orifices is not my idea of food It is a disgusting, if effective disease..taking so long to kill the host in such an awful way. Calici, at least ,is very fast and apparently causes a massive collapse of organs ..so very little time of agony. Oh..and rabbit fleas also transmit Myxy ... so it may not have been a mozzie after all.... Edited October 17, 2012 by persephone
BlackJaq
It was definitely myxo, since their eyes were swollen shut within the day of me noticing the swelling, lots of gunk everywhere and nobody died of their own accord within the first two or three days, just struggled to breathe through those disguising pussy noses. We ended up putting down the whole lot and never had rabbits again Also they were Calici vaccinated by their breeder :) I suppose it could have been fleas, we did have a rampant feral rabbit population though as far as I know they weren't in our yard. I semi regularly flea sprayed all cages and runs as well but I suppose you can always have new fleas move in. It was devastating anyways
mixeduppup
Rabbit fleas are gross, we had quite a bad plague where we used to live one year. Our rabbits are regularly treated as well as every other animal but I have dreams about picking them up and being covered in fleas.
BlackJaq
Oooo Icky I have chickens now. We still eat those and they lay eggs also. I'm spending today next to the incubator and brooder waiting for 30 or so eggs to hatch. Got about 5 so far... Am guessing I won't get anything else done today. Oh and Foxy my Weimaraner is watching intently as well.. I asked her if she wanted to be the new chicken Mummy since I'm out of broody/clucky hens atm but she thought I said "chickens go in the tummy" so I have aborted that idea now... :p Edited October 18, 2012 by BlackJaq
The Spotted Devil
My Springer brought me back a dead rabbit in a retrieving trial - definitely calici according to those in the know. Big, healthy looking and fairly freshly dead. She was SOOOOO pleased with herself
