Pet Patio Doors...

Hi DOLers...

Just hoping for some opinions about which brand you have or recommend for patio dog doors? I have been reading some old posts on this and majority of people seem to have Pig in Mud or Patio Link... It seems I can only find PIM at pet stores and their is quite a difference between flap sizes from Large - XLarge. The Patio Link one's look very well made however, are fairly expensive... The other option I have seen is "Modern Pet Doors" - which is an SA manufacturer sold on Ebay or via their website... price is great and quality seems fine... Also any experiences getting a med/large dog (Hungarian Vizsla in my case) through say 27cm wide x 58cm high...? Pretty narrow...

Looking forward to hearing some comments...

Just replied to exact same question in this site, and there is a chap who specialises in making these and installing he is very reasonable and is either on gold coast or close by as he installed my daughter's I can get his details if you are interested just PM me.

Secret to getting dog to go through is make a big game of it all, have door held open for few days, throw food through it or toy etc and give heaps praise and reward as dog does the desired 'go through' behaviour, then what I did was teach touch which my dog already knew to touch my body or hand on command, I transferred this to touch and made the target the door flap, every time he succeeded I rewarded with high level treat (chicken his favourite), then next step was holding door as he went through I let it gently slide along his back again praising and rewarding all this took baby steps and over a month as he was older when introduced to this dog door concept, eventually he just commenced pushing flap and going out but initially would not come back in. the type of door we had was plastic flap with option for another lockable non see through material as well, this one was never used as he refused to go through. Many dogs do not like the 'bang' sound the flap makes when it hits base of hole so take this into consideration in your final purchase.

Sorry I just saw that thread after your post here... The guy you suggested above who makes these, is this like the sliding door insert or one cut into the existing glass/flyscreen door?

I mainly want to know if anyone has purchased the patio door from www.modernpetdoors.com.au? - I have heard a lot about the others but not this one...

I recently bought a Hartmans patio door from bunnings, it looks exactly the same as the pig in mud door but instead of being close to $400 for the medium PIM, it was only $189 and seems great quality.

Sorry, have not heard about that one either. But we're in the process of getting one from here (http://www.temporary...m.au/large.html). It's a bit crude, but the price difference is huge and we have a bolt on the sliding door so it looks really sturdy. Hope this helps :)

Thank you, I have seen this company and the only reason I can't get one from here is that it doesn't have the extension for height - I know you can buy it as an extra but our door is 204cm high and I think there was a chance that door was going to be a bit tall... just... They do look great though!
