kiesha09
The good news is the shoulder that was causing her grief FOREVER apparently feels really good and no evidence of anything to much going on there :). CavsRcute
I find that pain meds and anti inflammatories don't help my girl if she has trigger points.
ness
Hmmm they were helping something but Kenz's situation is not seemingly straight forward now. Some of what is happening may be compensation for goodness knows what and it seems to be about tracking down and isolating what is actually causing the problem. Wobbly
Hmmm they were helping something but Kenz's situation is not seemingly straight forward now. Some of what is happening may be compensation for goodness knows what and it seems to be about tracking down and isolating what is actually causing the problem. I hope you can figure it out so you can give her the help she needs, it's so awful feeling powerless when our pets are hurting. Best wishes for getting her back in good form ASAP! G.S.P.S/K
I just wanted to say: I feel your pain. My Staffy/Kelpie X had her right knee operated on for luxating patella in June. It was successful. 12 weeks later she had the left knee done. At her checkup/bandage removal 2 weeks post op, we heard the bad news it hadn't been successful and she'd need it done again. 5 weeks later she had the op again and at 3 follow up appointments (to get cartrophen injections) the news was all positive until last week (5 weeks post op)- we were devasted to hear that her knee was still luxating and that she'd probably require surgery for a 3rd time on the same knee! I can't stand the idea of putting her through surgery and confinement AGAiN, and have no idea what to do- like should I be taking her to a specialist or something... Sorry havnt offered u any advice etc, just wanted to say your not alone.
ness
It sucks so badly. Have you tried any physio to help GSK? Kenz had lots of trigger points in her surgery leg and they weren't doing her any favours. I find it interesting that a normal vet checked it over and said he couldnt find a problem with it but the chiro vet and the specialist both tell me its still luxating a little to much . Kenz's issues are compounded by this random RH lameness which nobody seems to know what is going on. Her patella on that side was checked and rechecked under sedation and deemed not a problem. ness
Hmmm well things haven't lasted - its back to looking as bad as it was a fortnight ago. Kenz is struggling tonight. Couldn't get up the stair case again, had issues with her hind end when out on our walk tonight. I don't think the specialist has any ideas if his email to me is anything to go by other than if its the left stifle we could go through surgery again. I am beside myself at the moment its not fair on her .

I am beside myself at the moment its not fair on her . A few thoughts based on what we went through with our boy. How is the febella (the tiny bone behind the knee)? Our boy had somehow exploded his and that caused scar tissue that prevented a patella surgery from healing properly. Also, most BCs have patellas that luxate in one direction. My boy's was the opposite, and the specialist had not thought to check, so my poor darling had to have more surgery. We used laser to help the healing, and also acupuncture. Finally, definitely no stairs, no getting on couches etc for months! He was older when this happens, and recovery took a good 12 months
ness
Thanks for the thoughts temperamentfirst. I don't really know - first I had heard of the febella. I still wonder if enough was done in surgery the first time but I don't know if thats the closed minded approach to things. The chirovet feels there is more going on then just the patella. I just don't have an open budget to be able to carry out huge diagnostics at the moment without justification that it may help and it may change what we are doing. I haven't got that from anybody yet.
ness
Hmmm so fast forward a few weeks - had to have a phone conversation with the neurospecialist about a week ago. He wants more video and I am to keep doing as I am with her which is not much other than free running or walks. I have been told if she has obvious pain then I should make an appointment for her. The problem is I still can't seem to get useful video. By the time I get the video running she seems to be ok again. She is still having random issues with not being able to get up the stairs though. I am very frustrated because its still there but its not. I am starting to wish it would either vanish totally or get worse so we could get some decent video of the issue. . ness
So we are nearly through the extra month and nothing has changed really. Still having random intermittent lameness episodes which are proving impossible to capture on video. She has had a few which look way to much like the patella slipping. Does anybody know if its possible for the patella to continue to worsen even though she has had surgery given it reluxated a bit. The physio has suggested she needs to do some balance disc type work to build on core strength and she has an appointment this coming Thursday to see where we are at.
