Loving my Oldies
Buy some Optrex from the chemist, dilute it with warm water and wipe your girl's eyes a couple of times a day.
Alyosha
Have you had her lashes checked? They're not growing inwards and causing irritation (condition called entropian) are they?
WreckitWhippet
Rule out Distichiasis and then take a more holistic approach to the dog. SBT's can be susceptible to allergy and skin conditions and the sypmtoms can be more problematic at certain times during the year. Take a good look at the dogs diet, try to remove all grains and preservatives from the diet. Think about the chemicals that you put on and in the dog. If you don't have fleas and are not in a heart worm area, then those chemicals are not necessary. Minimise the number of vaccinations you give. skully
Have you had her lashes checked? She just recently had her yearly check-up...
WreckitWhippet
It's best to have the dogs eyes checked by an Opthamologist , depending on your location it's about $150 to have the eyes checked and cleared for Entropian and Distichiasis. jelibeybi
Wouldn't the eye gunk problem be year round if it was eyelashes growing wrong? Edited September 29, 2012 by jelibeybi
*kirty*
Not always, it can come and go. Be careful what you put in her eyes. Our clinic recommends cold callendula tea for mild allergies.

She just recently had her yearly check-up... Yes. We got a chi from the RSPCA years ago. They gave us drops for her "eye infection". Took her to our vet who said she had entropian. Referred us to a specialist for an operation and all was well after that. At this time of year, there are lots of allergies around as well.
