ShesaLikeableBiBear
We wean our puppies onto puppy food, which we feed until they are a minimum of 8 months old, and are currently feeding Black Hawk Holistic. We have NO issues with either smelly or runny poohs. We have 7 dogs here, 5 of whom are in the house, the pups (7 mo.) haven't learnt to come in the pet door yet. :D When we feed beef mince we feed PREMIUM which we purchase from our local butcher. Other than that they have raw chicken necks/wings.
luvsdogs
I have put my 15 m/o Japanese Spitz onto a raw diet because kibble was making his teeth terribly discoloured & even adding plaque remover didn't help. He started off with chicken pieces, mostly legs, for a couple of weeks before adding slowly, turkey wings, beef pieces etc. The meat is best left in large pieces so the dog can chew which help clean the teeth. A few raw feeding forums I'm on say that the meat shouldn't be minced as it doesn't help the teeth & it creates more bacteria to the meat. I saw a youtube video today that was interesting. The (I think holistic vet) says to help prevent dogs from getting food allergies is to change their food, kibble, 3-4 times per year. It helps their gut adjust to different food sources. from about 1m 39s on.
Guest Labradork
My 16 week old Lab gets diarrhea from eating raw chicken but not cooked chicken or raw lamb. I feed her four small meals a day. She has Artemis Medium/Large Breed Puppy, cooked chicken, raw vegetables and flaxseed oil, as well as raw lamb bones. She also has Echinacea ACE plus Zinc, Acidophilus and Cranberry tablets. She was taken off her mother's milk suddenly at six weeks when her mum developed Mastitis... And I wanted to boost her immune system to help her through her worming/vaccination schedule. I'm giving her the Cranberry to prevent a Urinary Tract Infection. She poos about 3 times a day... Her poos are perfect now (well formed and not smelly) and I'm very happy LOL. ETA: I rotate between the Artemis and Holistic Select Large & Giant Breed Puppy. dotdashdot
I fed my pup Eagle Pack HOlistic Select duck formula when I got her (rather than puppy-specific), and now at a year and a half she's had several brands of food and never had a tummy upset or the runs. I prefer grain-free foods but I've in total I've fed EP Holistic, Eagle Pack (Power), Pro Plan, Earthborn Holistic (my favourite), Black Hawk, Advance and a bit of Royal Canin that I got cheap. The only one I will never feed her again is Pro Plan as her skin reacted to it. (Working in a pet store gave me access to a hell of a lot more than most people).
