gusgem
Hi all, My 12yr old lab has just been in hospital for a week with a weird bowel infection. They are still unsure as to what it was that made him so sick, anyway, he is all better now and back to his normal crazy self. He lost a lot of condition quickly and his coat is dry and really ugly! Is there any food in particular that I can give him to help get his coat back in awesome condition? The vet said I can start reintroducing normal food from tomorrow (hes on chicken & rice at the moment) so if all goes well I would like to start giving him something a bit extra from next week onwards to help his coat. What's your coat secrets? TIA
persephone
Sorry your old boy has been ill. At this stage , perhaps just gradually introduce a good normal diet - if/when he is handling that well, then think about adding extras for his coat ? IMO It is more important that he is healed and properly digesting food first ... it will be a while before any supplements show up in new hair anyway ... Tara8430
Ive been using megaderm for to help my labs skin and coat, i would say get his tummy right before trying it though.
sheena
Get his tummy settled first, but then you could try Livamol which is good for brown/chocolate/copper coloured coats. Or pure virgin coconut oil added to his diet, tinned fish, sardines, raw egg yolks.
gusgem
Thank you for the suggestions... Will be definitely getting his guts right and some condition on him before worrying too much about his coat- just had a moment while my son was asleep to ask the question ;) Ta
Pretty Miss Emma
I use raw egg, sardines and also you could try giving fish oil tablets once his tummy is back in shape!
dancinbcs
While his gut is recovering you could try scrambled eggs if he can tolerate them. They are usually easy to digest and help with the coat. Leave all the oil type products until his digestion is normal again.
