Boronia
O dear, poor Dimples has no idea what is happening, she looks upset and confused...probably because her wrinkles have a worried shape. Hope Mum, the poor old chook, is a little happier today Ams.
schnauzer
Amazing, awesome work Ams. Poor mummy dog - how does anyone surrender a 15 yr old dog (or let her have pups for that matter). Nothing surprises me anymore Gorgeous pups and I hope mother dog finds a wonderful home too :) You are an inspiration for rescue.
Xyz
Just a thought, could anyone else take mum to another location so she can't hear the babies??...
Guest Ams
She has to do quarantine and none of my foster carers have the set up for that. Puppies also have to do quarantine (albeit in my laundry).
minimax
Those puppies are adorable! I just can't understand someone surrendering their 15 year old, especially not after putting her through a litter at that age
Little Gifts
Oh poor old mumma. Having had a 15 year old dog I can't imagine how she would've coped away from everything familiar and on her own/outside for reasons she can't understand. Thankfully it will all pass soon for her. Thank you for caring so much for her Ams - she needs it.
Guest Ams
She broke me this morning and I carried her down to the house to be with her puppies (i'm in day 4 or 5 of a migraine and I just couldn't cope any longer). No KC and poops are normal so I'll take the risk. I think some of her anxiety is dementia. She is still barking and howling but seems a little more settled in the house. BJean
God give me strength, fifteen & having had yet another litter. One of loads I bet Hope the poor old girl can find a nice cosy spot to put her feet up & enjoy her retirement & someone to pamper her in her twylight years. I dont think Ams has posted anything that indicates this female has had loads ... If the bitch is actually 15yo and her system is still able to reproduce and raise a litter of pups in good condition then this bitch would have been well cared for. From the OP, it sounds like an accidental breeding. Edited September 10, 2012 by lilli
BJean
Introducing Dimples, Dude and Dweeb. Dimples is the biggest one (the only girl). Dude is the sable. Dweeb is the littlest one. Ams is the bitch still feeding the puppies and cleaning after them? What is her milk production like?
Little Gifts
This is what confuses me Lilli. If old mumma has been well cared for to get to such a grand age and this was an accidental litter why get rid of her and the pups? Why not just the pups? Jen it will be interesting to see what Dr Susan finds when she does the vetwork because you would assume Doxy might also have age vision deterioration that would have to cause some anxiety. I feel like I want to come out and set up a tent and do a camp out with her in her quarantine pen. We could make a fire and cook some sausages.... Guest Ams
This girl has been well looked after but she has also had quite a few litters. She is not producing milk but does still tend to try and clean up after the puppies (although she is happy for me to have taken over the duties too). She has one nipple on the outside of her hip (weird place I know) which produced a single drop of milk the other day. I've not seen the puppies try to suckle from her but they still want her around. I will upload a few photos in a bit. (taken very quickly just now).

BJean
Does she have a pedigree? I dont know what the Pei breed's general health and longevity status is but from a breeding perspective that female represents a very robust and hardy pei. If I bred Pei I;d want to know her lineage as her constitution is quite remarkable.
Cat
The longevity is quite remarkable but Surely the weird leg nipple would be a drawback?
Guest Ams
I did ask about where they got her from but she had been through a few sets of hands so no idea of pedigree now. I agree she is remarkable.

BJean
The longevity is quite remarkable but Surely the weird leg nipple would be a drawback? Her vet check will verify but the nipple could be a mammary tumor
tdierikx
I have no doubt that once mumma dog has settled some, she will be thoroughly vet checked to make sure she is in the best condition she can be... Does mumma have a name Ams? T.
Guest Ams
Mumma is Doxy Roxy. She has been vet checked and is remarkably in good health. She has now been moved to a foster home so she can't hear her puppies to try and reduce her stress.

From the OP, it sounds like an accidental breeding. My thoughts too. Whilst I wouldn't personally breed a bitch of that age, mother nature will allow them to reproduce if they are fertile and fit
