Borneogoat
I have a 10wk old staffy who has been healthy as can be. After sleeping most of the eve on the couch next to me, he started retching. I brought him outside and he had one small'ish vomit. Maybe 30ml clear tan fluid, a few bits of grass, and a couple small bone fragments. The bones are presumably from the raw chicken frame at lunch time. Afterwards, he was calm and even took a few licks at the material. We then stayed in the yard, in case he had more to spit up. He wee'd as normal and then took a poo as normal. But then he tried to poo several more times, but nothing came out. Seemed like he was constipated and was trying to push it out. But it was dark and at one point I thought I saw a bit of liquid poo come out. Then he scooted his bum across the ground a couple times. He has eaten his normal stuff today: some Vet's All Natural with roo mince, chicken frame, and a hand full of kibble. Upon googling "vomit itchy bum" I got various hits suggesting worms. However, he was wormed at 8wks with enteroguard by the breeder. He was wormed againon Monday (10wks) with drontal when he got his jabs. So worms seem unlikely ... right? Any suggestions? Like any first time "parent" I'm quite worried....
aussielover
The most common cause for vomiting and diarrhoea in a puppy that is otherwise bright and happy is some sort of dietary indiscretion ie they have eaten something they shouldn't have. I wouldn't worry too much if he's still eating and drinking normally and is still bright, happy and active. If he stops eating and drinking, vomits several times and has copious diarrhoea or becomes flat I would take him straight to the vet. Diarhhoea and constipation is fairly unpleasant and may have been uncomfortable for him which is why he scooted. I agree that worms is unlikely seeing as he is up to date with his worming. Tassie
I guess I'd keep an eye on him - and probably not feed the chicken frames for a few days just to let his gut settle down again. Some dogs have a little trouble with bone pieces, and they can get constipated too. My dogs are kibble fed - but when they do have bones, my girl can be pooing almost concrete, poor thing - and she sometimes throws up bone fragments even a couple of days later. teekay
Hope your boy is feeling better today. Just wanted to add. Sometimes when they are 'in the position' for a while it doesn't mean they are constipated, it can mean they are having tummy pains and know they need to go some more. Bit like when we get the runs, we know from the pain that there's more to come.
