We do the Mildura to Melbourne Pound run once a month.

Cats behave better in the dark so i would cover the crate, they rarely toliet in the 6hrs it takes.

Dogs most of the time make the 6hrs too without tolieting (we have up to 12 dogs with us so they dont get a stop we just go as fast as we can)

If you drive at the speed limit it is 9hrs melbourne to Sydney, you will only need 1 fuel stop so I would just keep going if you can. We use to stop on our runs and walk the dogs but it just unsettled them, of course it would be easier with just one dog but I think 2 stops would be more than enough for him

Dont feed them the day of the trip either, only up your chances of them being sick. Feed the night before and when you arrive.

The pound staff had them all feed once before we left and we had so many sick, and you have to stop and clean it up cause the smell is just too bad, so better they be a little hungary. It added over an hour to a 6 hour trip

Really appreciate all your comments. After reading them all i think we will just drive straight through. Having 2 drivers will make it easier cause by BF will just sleep when he isnt driving. And he will happily drive for most of it anyway.
