Agility In Victoria

Its a shame that it seems so difficult to take agility classes in VIC :( Do you think that already having agility titles or if you're already trialling you would have an advantage? surely that is more relevant than a dog having a good standard of obedience?

Yes you would get into agility at Croydon if you already had titles. Same as if you had your CCD etc. You would most likely be asked to do the foundation and equipment courses rather than going straight into the trial class, unless you had been going to all the Greg D sessions.

The obedience standard to pass the Basic obedience test is below CCD btw. It sounds heaps easier to pass the walk-in assessment than to pass the Basic obedience test though which is a little unfair.

I started their foundation course 3 weeks ago. 5 people got in but only 2 of us actually turn up, so a lack of instructors doesn't seem to be an issue.

Hehe, that's what I'm hanging my hat on... that if we get let in there will be an immediate place because people aren't turning up! laugh.gif

The problem is you need to train to get a title! Lol And round and round it goes.

Jules I'm actually going to continue with the Obedience now (knowing that I have a carrot to offer her with the agility - now we look like we might get in) and aim for getting our CCD.

You will need to wait until the next foundation class starts. :) It used to be a 4 week class.

Wow, what a shame that it is so hard to start a dog off in Victoria.

I understand triallers wanting to train at multiple clubs but in a way they are also limiting the future of the sport by preventing new people from starting out. I am glad it is not like that in SA and those wanting to train are easily able to.

Where in SA are the Club's? I live near Border Town and given what I've been reading about Victorian Clubs, I might opt to travel in the opposite direction!

Cheers.

Darcy's up to her 8th Masters Jumping title and I had to join the waiting list for the closest agility club I can kind of get to (it's a 2 hour drive in really good traffic). I've been on it for well over 12 months, but half of that is due to my inability to make the intro nights.

Some clubs will take you on immediately if you have the ability to instruct to a certain level.

In SA you have Mt Gambier as a country club down your way. Then metro there is Southern Districts, Noarlunga, Agility Dog Club, SA Obedience Dog Club, Munno Para, Para Districts and Gawler. The other country clubs are Whyalla and Riverland (Barmera).

Just a little FYI update - we were assessed at Croydon today and passed the level of obedience required (basic 2.. not sure if that just interprets as level 2) so were able to put our name down for the next class starting in a few weeks.

Simple as that! So we'll do a social class until the agility starts up.

So what seemed like "the impossible" was really quite easy. I guess where it's not easy is the specialist clubs.

For me "Foundation" = Agility, so not fussed at all about having to do our ground work first. Thanks everyone for your input! Certainly took away a lot of my uncertainty and feeling inferior. thanks.gif

You just pitch up and ask at the office. They did mine that day. We're getting assessed to move to the next level next week, so a new class should start soon.

Thanks for that, good luck going through your grades :)

Yup I just rocked up with my form filled out and said I wanted to do agility! Normally (from my understanding) you can be assessed on the day but the assessor was substituting for a class so we went back the following week, passed no drama and did a social class at 9.30 :)
