Insurance?

Hi! Can I ask how many of you have insurance for your pets and which do you recommend?

I am in two minds and would love some advice!

You'll find mixed advice on this one, some have had good experiences others not so good. There are lots of helpful threads if you do a quick search on insurance and have a squiz.

I have mine insured as peace of mind as it costs me $7 a week for all accidents, illnesses and emergencies and I like to have that safety barrier. Moreso for the accidents and emergencies those bills can go into the thousands overnight!

Yes, definitely! If you go to a site called petsure http://www.petsure.com.au/ there are quite a few that you can do online quotes.

They (I think) are all run by an umbrella company called 'Holland' but each insurer on the page has different costs, so it is worth doing a few quotes.

Petplan is under allianz so has different - and much better - terms. For example, if you dog has an ongoing illness, the others either exclude that illness from future claims or only let you claim to a total of the annual amount over the life of the dog. Petplan let's you claim the annual limit every year. They are more expensive but worth it IMO.

Remember with pet insurance you need to pay upfront and then claim it back.

And I would also recommend taking it out as soon as you get your dog. The longer you wait, the more vet visits, the more 'history' there will be for the insurance company to use against you!
