Missmizzi
So my three yo cav came to us this year and we have fallen in love with her but we did not know of her digging issues. She has dug out on average 10 times.. we have 8 ft colour bond fences, she has toys, bones, I only work part time, she gets walked and sleeps inside.. and she still gets out in twenty minute gaps when I go out, or she goes outside to wee.... Any idea what to do?? At the moment she has been going to a friend's with three dogs when I go to work. Ive laid mesh down next to the fence and pegged it down so I am going to see how that goes. Guest Ams
Poop in the holes works as a temporary fix for me. I've started running a second layer of mesh that goes about a foot up the fence and then across the ground to stop them from digging. They don't seem to get the need to go out and then under. I know someone else has dug in sleepers around the fence so the dog only gets to dig about a foot and then hits solid timber. I fostered a cav female and she was the worst escape artist and would dig or climb. In the end I just left her in the house when unsupervised. I got sick of chasing her up the road. DobieMum
I have an electric fence about 30cm off the ground at my place, all the way round, for exactly this reason. It put a stop to the escaping.
megan_
Can you dig a little trench and fill it with concrete? Allternativle, place pavers around the inside of the fence line - she digs, they fall.
Missmizzi
Desperate now. She has dug out twice in 24 hours!! I've had to put her on a runner!!!!
persephone
Oh Dear Can her previous owner help, or was she from a pound ? All I can suggest is that you buy/make a strong roofed/floored pen/cage maybe look at gumtree? I found THIS CAGE which just need a floor and kennel ..... or your local freecycle .... Guest lavendergirl
Is she only getting out when you are not at home? Could it be a separation anxiety issue? Where does she stay while you are out - inside or outside?
Kadbury
Get a crate and leave her in it while your out. I have a Cav who does like a little dig when I am out so this is how I fix the problem.......good luck.
