huga
I thought we could have another backlighting challenge, after all, it was the first one that taught me how to do it! Now I use it constantly, it is my preferred method if I have a choice. It takes a bit of trial and error and a lot of getting used to. But it's lots of fun and the images always have a bit of a magical vibe. I love when you get that golden rim of light along the edge of someones hair and face. The sun needs to be relatively low for it to work and I don't like shooting wide open for this, because of chromatic aberration. Jasmine Star posted some how-to tips: http://www.jasminestarblog.com/index.cfm?postID=1456&faq-how-to-shoot-backlit You can silhouette this way too, which is fun :) Just need to stop down and increase the ss. Sun, not rain  Another couple from my session last weekend. It was so pretty! We should do another one for window lighting, that's my indoors default. tlc
I remember the first challenge, must go back and have a look, I can't even remember if I posted in it. Lovely shots everyone. I remember a time when shooting into the light was such a no no but you can get some spectacular images doing this.
kja
I'm glad I saw the photo before you made it a link - I very rarely click links and would have missed it. I think the photo was strong and thought provoking on a variety of levels, things that good photographs are. The subject matter might be disturbing but it certainly wasn't over any lines, imho. It's good to view images that aren't the norm. The world is not all happy unicorns farting rainbows :)
CrazyCresties
The world is not all happy unicorns farting rainbows :) Not a dig at you Kirislin, but I agree, we need to see the natural world in all it's gory beauty. Such pretty photos in here :D I think I've only intentionally done a backlit one once, the caterpillar below, but will give this challenge a go :) More side than backlit I think....? Kirislin
I agree regarding Persephones photo, it's good, but I find it depressing, and if I had the choice I wont look at it. I've seen roos strung up like that in real life too, it's a terrible slow painful death, and I prefer not to keep seeing a reminder of it. I could just as easily go to the knackery and take a beautifully backlit photo of a horse taking a bullet to the head. It might be technically perfect, but some might find it distressing. I should clarify, I dont think it crossed any boundaries either, but I've seen it twice now and each time it took me by surprise, and as I said, if given the choice, I wont look at it, but it was unavoidable. I appreciate that Pers has put it on a link, thankdyou Persephone for doing that. kja I can assure you, I'm not the type who goes skipping through the daisies expecting to see fairies, I've seen plenty of horror, I know it exists. persephone
Lovely!!Like the flowers, dogs, flags & things ... like the 'funky flare', too ..and it reminded me of this one I did a couple of months ago . Yes, I did extend the 'rainbow' a little ..but it was there to start with :), which is what made me think of the song :p Edited August 23, 2012 by persephone
