Shelby
Don't think there would be sheltie in him but he does look to have kelpie x something. He doesn't look like he has much growth left but he is a cutie, isn't he? Could also have some german shepherd way back too with the widow's peak on his head. dancinbcs
Can't be Sheltie because long coat is dominant to short coat and I don't think Shelties carry a short coat gene.
persephone
I don't see sheltie :) We have Koolie /kelpies this colour ... :) He's going to be a nice looking boy!
indigirl
he's beautiful...are you keeping him? Hope not I have more than enough dogs .. But he's totally my kinda dog.. Lol. He needs work, needs to learn what's acceptable behavior and how to walk on lead etc. He also needs to be housetrained and needs more socialisation with pp, as he's very timid. So we will see how he goes.
indigirl
Can't be Sheltie because long coat is dominant to short coat and I don't think Shelties carry a short coat gene. Thanks! I've owned a sheltie x kelpie in the past amd she had a long thick coat. This boys nervousness prolly comes from the kelpie side then. He's just too small for a kelpie I thought? And his coat is much longer amd softer than a kelpies. Maybe a kelpie mixed with something smaller.

Salukifan
Not an F1 cross IMO. Name the four most common breeds of dog in your area and he/she's probably a mix of them all.. and then some.
Cheyd
I wondered when I saw the photo on the thread if it was a boy  He is gorgeous and sorry I also dont see much Sheltie in him either
BC Crazy
He is very handsome boy. I can't see any Sheltie but I am not as experienced as many others on DOL. I do see Kelpie, Koolie. Hope he can find the home he deserves, a loving one.
indigirl
Thanks heaps, think I'll just say he's a kelpie x :)
Christina
You have a very cute mongrel there. This dog could be everything & anything. The nervousness may come from his last environment, being in the pound & then coming to your place. The dog won't know if its coming or going, where it lives or who the boss is. How confusing for the poor dog. Nothing to do with Kelpie, if it even has any in it. Well done for saving him & I hope you find him the home he deserves. persephone
he looks a bit of the same mix as my Widget..who is mostly Koolie with some kelpie ..and is only small , as was her mum, and grandma. LINK
DeltaCharlie
Can't be Sheltie because long coat is dominant to short coat and I don't think Shelties carry a short coat gene. Ummm short coat (L) is actually dominant to long coat (l/l). A kelpie would presumably be L and a sheltie will always be l/l (they don't ever present in short coat). Therefore a mix of the 2 would be L/l and would appear short coated due to the dominant L gene. So yes, genetically speaking it could be a sheltie/kelpie mix (in fact the presence of coat would pretty much rule out kelpie). In saying that though, I don't really see any sheltie in there. Like others have said he could be a mix of a whole range of different breeds. My Charlie is supposed to be a kelpie/ACD mix but in all honesty if I was to play the odds (he came from a country area of Kempsey) I would go with kelpie/ACD/Border Collie/staffy mix as they are the 4 most common breeds to be randomly roaming around in the area  In all likelihood dogs in the pound are not going to come from 2 purebred dogs. Yes, it happens, but chances are the parents were mixes to begin with so you could have at least 4 breeds right there :)
Bjelkier
He looks like a dog I had as a child, even the markings on the face. I think PF is right, total mix of the most common local dogs.
Toolz
he is gorgeous.. over here we often call these types of dogs a 'your guess is as good as mine' breed lmao

Perfumed Lillium
Can't be Sheltie because long coat is dominant to short coat and I don't think Shelties carry a short coat gene. I don't claim to be an expert in the dog world by any means but I was under the impression that short coats are dominant to long coat? :) oops, just read the post above which explained genetics concerning long coat versus short coat, that answered my question.
