SBT101
Heartbeats can be heard from around the 6-7week mark with a fetal doppler :)

Kirislin
I cant remember exactly but it was earlier than the last week. They are very fast. About 3 days before whelping was due, I picked up that a heartbeat was slowing down, and told the reproductive vet. She just looked at me as if to say "what would you know" It got slower and slower, my bitch became very ill, that puppy was pulled out dead and another died the next day. If you hear anything like that insist that the vet take notice. It was my first litter and I doubted my instincts and put my trust in the vet. Big mistake. On the happy side I found it incredibly exciting to hear all those little hearts thumping away. I'd move the stethascope and find another, and then another, I never managed to work out how many she was going to have by listening, I just knew it was quite a few, she ended up having 9 in total. Tralee
Oh really...bugger I was hoping much earlier than that. Ultrasound will pick them up from 4 weeks. (Can see the heartbeats). Our ultrasounds at four weeks also show 2cm skeltons and beating hearts.
