Health Problems Or Old Age?

Sorry I forgot to come on last night - he's home!

Still not well, but there is no bleeding. If he bleeds/vomits I have to take him straight back again.

He seems to be in a bit of pain everytime he drinks/eats for about 10 mins. He's on 3 different medications atm. The carafate 1/2 hour before he eats, then another liqid medication (zurtec or something) that has to be put on his food and AB's as well.

Well, that's a step in a good direction, it seems :). Glad he's back home where he wouldn't be stressing so much and hopefully the meds will see the ulcer right and him back to as good as new, very soon.

MsDani, why not have a myelogram done on your dog. That will show up any spinal irregularities.

My boy ruptured a disk in his spine, was xrayed and we went straight to the canine neuro specialist who did a myelogram. This pinpointed the area of concern and he had immediate surgery. He recovered perfectly from being paralyised from the shoulders down, to running and walking normally.

Ms Dani's dog is 13 years old, going blind and deaf with arthritis as well, so hardly a candidate for spinal surgery. In a younger, otherwise healthy dog it would be appropriate but not for a dog this old.

I'm sorry you are going through this MsDani but sometimes we have to face the fact with oldies that their body is just wearing out.

He had a bowel movement this morning and there was no blood  He's still abit uncomfortable, but nothing like yesterday. I'll see how he goes for the rest of the morning/afternoon - and decide from there if he needs another inj. for pain relief. He's still eating/drinking well (though I would like him to eat a bit more - but I'm not going to push it IYKWIM).

I guess it's just a day by day thing atm.

Yes dancinbcs, I'm aware that MsDani's dog is elderly. I had the idea MsDani wished to know the status of her dogs spine and suggested a myelogram would provide this information. That is all I suggested. I was hardly suggesting spinal surgery for her elderly dog  That would be rather stupid wouldn't it? Perhaps you misunderstood that in my post I was giving info about my dog.

I provided the information that a myelogram pin pointed what the problem was with my own dog if MsDani interested in a myelogram. I thought that would be obvious since I started a new paragraph about my own dog.

Good news that there was no blood. Still eating and drinking well is a good sign. With a sick oldie it is a day by day thing. I hope he continues to improve. Keeping you in my thoughts.

We're back from the vets - she gave an inj. of tramadel (sp*) and it's the first time in a few days he actually came home and wagged his tail. He even did an excited bark when his Dad came home. :D (DP was only gone for 5 mins lol) - How I have missed that little stub of his wagging.

But I'm waiting for the call from the vet to let me know when the specialist can get there to do an Ultrasound. Hopefully tomorrow.

I can't go by 'everything is indicating towards...' - I need answers now! I need answers so I can make the decision on what is best for him.
