Has Anyone Heard Of Scholars In Collars (sa)

Hey Guys,

Just checking out if anyone knows of a Alexis from Scholars in Collars in SA and what your experiences were and if you would reccomend them for a Dane owner in SA whose dog has started showing some negative behaviour to other dogs out on walks.

Alexis is great, well in my experience anyway. She is who I referred my puppy buyers that lived in her area to for training.

Another recommendation for Alexis here. I did some of the Delta course with her about 12 or so yrs ago. She is lovely and has built up a really great reputation since then.

Scholars In Collars are method pushers not dog trainers IMHO, I would recommend Mark Singer in SA who uses a proper balanced approach in training methods and tooling for successful behavioural modification. :)

If your owner lives near Tea Tree Gully, try their council dog obedience program. Run more for pet dogs than trialling and they have experience with numorous issues over the years. Instructors are pretty good and open to looking for new ways as well as proven ones.

(I'm another not keen on Delta - too limited with methods and uses lots of food.)

Agree...this is why I only did 'some' of the Delta course. It didn't take me very long to see it was their way or the highway, so I hit the highway!

I know of 2 dogs in SA that were recommended by Delta trainer's inability to provide adequate behavioral solutions to have them PTS........Mark sorted it by all accounts and quite easily +2 for Mark :)

Dog isn't highly aggressive so positive methods should be fine. I'm more for a balanced open appraoch but these days typical pet owners can't afford $400 which is what Mark is (what I was told when I first reccomended him). Even though yes it is an investment people either do or don't have the $400 spare.

I've taken my BC to the Scholars Basics course and thought it was great, just enrolled in a 2nd course - 'Meeting Manners'.

Would highly recommend Alexis.

If you think there is too much focus on food in Delta, just remember you need to work a method to phase it out!

Unless she has changed how she does things, she is 1 of the fastest I have seen when it comes to getting rid of lures and moving to random rewards. Certainly does not encourage the use of rewards as bribes.

After having instructed at obedience clubs and battled to get people to get rid of lures, she amazed me how quickly she managed to get people to get rid of what is often a crutch for them and then becomes an issue for the dog as well.

It's probably not relevant as it's still a lot of money for someone who doesn't have it but his fee is actually $300 which from memory covers a 2 hour in-home consultation, a 1 hour follow up, 12 months of online support and 8 sessions at his group socialisation classes.

It was inclusive of travel from what I was told - which either way $300/$400 is still alot for yoru average pet owner. I've paid more personaly but I understand peoples inability to shell out big bucks.

I have done several courses with Alexis previously and whilst I found her fantastic, super friendly and could see real improvements in some dogs, I felt that dealing with our specific issue in a group setting did not happen due to site/time/content constraints. If you are recommending her use, I would probably suggest a private consultation, where one on one time can be dedicated to the specific issues at hand of the dog in a private setting. I would recommend Alexis to anyone wanting to do some training, her methods are great, I myself would use her for a different dog, it just didn't suit Oscar.

Unsure where the person is located, but we have also joined a socialisation/obedience class run by Tracey, http://www.ohdobehave.com.au/, which is a great class and has some two danes in it already. Just another option, which I have found really successful.
