Ideas For Breakfast

 Share

Recommended Posts

One of my dogs doesnt tolerate dry very well so he was recently swapped to Vets All Natural complete mix + meat and does great on it. He is fed twice a day as he is a dog who is always hungry and active and will has been known to vomit bile unless fed 2 meals a day. He is getting the Vets All Natural at night because it is convenient for me to let it soak in water while im at work and I can come home and serve it right away.

I am after ideas for breakfast. He cant tolerate bones, he gets quite crook in the belly, even if it is bones like chicken necks. I am wanting to stick with something natural since he is on a raw diet and it needs to be something easy because I am rushing to get to work in the mornings so need something that doesnt take preperation time. Any ideas?

A nice big piece of lamb flap . ( the bit with no bone) .frozen , that he has to chew .

Depending on dog size ... a frozen heart of some sort ... once again.. something to chew , and not just gulp.

I would never leave a dog unattended with lamb flap without the bone in. It is one of the few things that I have known of several dogs to choke to death on. If I feed lamb flap I cut that bit off and dice it before feeding.

Oh - I didn't see the bit about dog being unsupervised ,

We feed lots of goat/sheep flap this way....pups and adult , and have never had a problem .It needs to be big.. so that it can not all fit in a mouth ..and I thought frozen would be safe..I guess dogs can choke on lots of things :(

Divide his daily meal into 2 and feed half him morning and night, no need to change your routine of soaking just divide the portion and put some away for breakfast.

Ora handful of any meat that he tolerates raw. It doesn't have to be difficult.

I prepare several meals of VAN at a time and it goes in the fridge after soaking.

Thanks for the suggestions, at the moment he is getting plain mince for brekkie but I just thought that I may be feeding him too much meat and therefore unbalancing his vets all natural by feeding him mince again at night with the complete mix.

I might give him a slice of Ecopet for brekkie instead of the mince since that has the meat, bone and veg already in it.

Why don't you make up enough for a week? Buy a bunch of plastic containers that will fit one meal in then freeze till you need them. If you take two out of the freezer the night before they will have thawed ready for breaky and dinner the next day.

I did this when I feeding VAN & mince to Vulcan. Only stopped because I wasn't happy with the quality of mince I was able to source.

VAN shouldn't require much preparation time anyway, make it up in bulk and fridge/freeze it until needed - 2kg of VAN soaked in 2L water overnight + 6kg mince will make up 10kg of pre-prepared food. If you want breakfast to be more entertaining for the dog then stuff the VAN in a Kong and give him that in the mornings.
