Is Teething The Reason?

Recommended Posts

My 19 week old mini schnauzer puppy has started teething and usually is a guts, eating everything offered. This morning, I offered his breakfast of raw meaty bones as I usually do, and he started 'playing' with it. I took it away and offered him muscle meat instead. The same response. I then took away his bowl and so far, he has gone without. Up till today, he has been on 3 feeds a day, eagerly eating anything put down. I certainly don't want him to become a fussy eater. Is it because he no longer wants 3 feeds a day, or could it be the teething? Any ideas?

What do his gums/teeth look like? Checking mouths during teething is a big help in catching any problems early :)

Will he eat the meat of you mince/chop it small?

is everything else normal?

it may be a sore mouth, or he could be feeling sick , or have pain somewhere ..or not be hungry.

try him with some finely chopped meat ..then leave him without food until at least lunchtime.it won't hurt him.

if he is still not eating ... it may be worth phoning a vet ?

Thanks for the replies. I can say with authority lol, that he is definately not off colour. He was just in the shower with my husband and he is doing zoomies around the house with his 'big brother'. He has lost teeth and I have noticed in a couple of spots the adult ones coming up. This is definately a one off, but as you can imagine, I don't want him off his food for too long, but at the moment it is not an emergency. He was offered chicken necks, portions of chicken wings and then mince and small chunks of meat but sort of played with it.

Don't offer him a choice, it can make a mini a fussy eater very quickly!

Mine still eat carcass, wings etc when teething, never had one miss a meal with a sore mouth.

Becks, he has eaten the carcases up until this morning. He came home on dry food and cooked chicken mince. His transition to raw took about 3 days, and he is one that really enjoys his food. I'll try lunch and see how he goes. I have had minis in the past and luckily none of mine have ever been fussy eaters and this one is not going to have the chance to be lol. He is not showing any sign of being off colour so hopefully, this is a once off. If it continues beyond today I'll take him to the vet for a look.
