Fostering A Greyhound In Sa

Hi All,

I'm not sure which board to post this on - I've been on DOL for a few years and fostered for a few rescue groups but have only just received my first foster greyhound girl through GAP SA.

Star will be 5 later this year and has never raced from what I have been told - she has been with me a week and is getting settled and comfortable with my family and our Labrador dog.

I have found GAP to be great to deal with however it looks like the forum on their website is inactive and I'd love to get in touch with anyone else on the boards who fosters for GAP in SA. Or anyone who has greyhounds and can share breed experience etc.

I'm loving learning about this beautiful breed and the opportunity to socialise her with other foster carers/owners would be great.

Hi Wendles, would love to see some pics of Star :) I started fostering greyhounds almost two years ago after seeing an article in my local paper about greyhounds as pets. I had lost my old ridgyX boy at age 16 and had never thought about a greyhound as a pet. My first foster boy came to me and I was instantly smitten. Foster fail number 1...see Stan in my sig :)I had 7 more fosters,all girls as my rescue group knew I wanted to adopt another and I wanted another boy. Miss Maddie came along 4 months later. A tiny little girl(she weighed 23kg)and Stan and I fell in love. Foster fail number 2. I am now addicted to greys and sing their praises to anyone who wants to listen, and those that don't :laugh: Good on you for giving a grey a foster home, they really are wonderful and loving dogs.

I don't foster, but I adopted our greyhound through gap sa! Love her and her funny habits!

Thanks guys :) here she is with my boy - they share a love of cinnamon donuts which is their treat on shopping day - they share a bag of 6 :laugh:

I was told Star was 28kgs when I collected her but she seems smaller to me - we will find out for sure when she goes to the vets to be desexed this week. I am used to my big chunky labbie and she is so dainty and lean (especially her sweet little head) - Miss Maddie is a gorgeous little girl Stans Mum :)

I am definitely trying my best not to have a foster failure as I would love to help as many as I can get into great forever homes - she is lovely though and I can't believe how quiet and well behaved she is - very easy to have around.

I will be converting as many friends and family as I can to the charm of greyhounds with the help of Star.

Their weight can be deceiving as they are generally quite muscular. Maddie is 25 kilos now and stays at that weight but to look at her you would think she weighs a lot less. She is very ribby but very muscular in her hind quarters. Stan is almost 10 kilos heavier than her but he is a lot taller than her and as he rarely gets off the lounge is not as fit :laugh:

Enjoy your time with Star, good to see your already hooked on greys...oh and would love more pics :)
