Issy
It is now about 8 weeks since Kingston has been on a roo/potato diet due to allergies. Now I know I am supposed to introduce new foods at this point I'm just not sure how I should do it. Our dermatologist is on leave until late August so I can't make contact with her to ask how to go from here. Should I just try one of beef/chicken with potato for 4-5 days and then give a break of 3 days before trying something new? (this is how I did it with my allergies but I'm not sure if it would apply to dogs as well). I don't know if jumping to a dry food would be good because we've had major problems with those previously. Any advice much appreciated.
Polgara's Shadow
Hi Issy - congrats on getting through the 8 week elimination diet! My vet told me to try a new food for ten days before deciding whether or not its an issue. As you said, perhaps start with beef or chicken and keep feeding the potato. I found when I fed Vulcan lamb that he was unbearably itchy very quickly..so before the ten days was up i took him back to what he was good with (in your case roo/potato) untill the itches calmed down again, then I tried another food. If he didn't get itchy I kept feeding for at least ten days before trying something else. Do one at a time and you'll build up an understanding of what he can and can't tolerate.
