noisymina
Hope it helps BC Crazy! I like being able to do something to help calm a dog - it comes in VERY handy at times. :) And it makes ME more calm knowing what I can do - which helps in itself. Ksisie used to end up lying down on her back in the Vet's waiting room of all places. How many get THAT chilled out? So next thing the vet wants to know how I did it because she had another client with an OTT Dobe! It does not always happen overnight, tho. Be patient. I never really took it further than that - I was happy with what we did achieve. But the possibilities are interesting.

A lot of people have commented on how patient I am, especially with Stella. I will not lie, she Is a handful most of the time but I see huge potential in her & she is such a sweet natured girl. I can only hope for Stella to be half as well behaved as your Dobe while at the vets. Our last vet visit was a complete disaster. She had a complete mental breakdown & ended up biting the poor vet on the face Took her 2 days to come back down emotionally from the visit. So am currently getting her used to wearing a muzzel ready for our next visit Edited July 4, 2012 by BC Crazy
noisymina
Oh dear! That would have been terribly stressful. I was really lucky that the first vet I took Kaisie to was a really good Dobe person. He sold out and the new vet was NOT at all what I wanted as I feel it is important for them to have a good bedside manner and plenty of treats! It took quite awhile before I found another vet that both the dog and I were happy with. There are other options that you may like to consider for use before that sort of visit. eg a thing called Troy Behave Paste. http://www.troylab.com.au/petproducts.php?tid=4&iid=18&pid=64 I've not used it, but I certainly would try it in that sort of situation. BC Crazy
Your right about it being very stressful noisymina. I was very upset about it. There was no warning signs with Stella & she is extremely quick. Even caught the vet very much by surprise. She has been to the vets before without a hitch. She didn't 'love it' but didn't reach the emotional state that she was in on this particular day. I have been going to the same Vet for 17 years without an issue & I believe he is very good at what he does. On this day however he didn't engage Stella at all & I said to him she wasn't having a very good day & he began to feel her body & wham, she went for him So next time I am going to ask him to speak to her lots, engage her. Bed side manner is a must with her. She is not the type of dog you can rush or approach quickly if she doesn't know you. I had Stella on Troy's Behave a while back. ATM I am using Vetalogica Tranquil. I find they do help her settle. I have a Thunder Shirt & if she isn't already stressed before I put it on that helps as well a little. She is very highly strung & reactive by nature. She is still licking that spot on her leg a bit. I put some Filtabac antiseptic cream on it a short time ago. Hope that it was the right sort of thing to put on it. She is back to her happy self though, which is great. Am just trying to stop her licking because the spot is quite red ATM.
