Protein % In Dry Food

I was having a discussion with my friend yesterday about the % of protein in dry dog food. She is new to Australia so she has been busy trying to find a good dry for her Belgian Shepherd, to which she has.

But we stumbled across Evo, that has 43%. Their cat dry has 50%. This is the highest we found.

So it makes me wonder, is there a guideline for protein and when is it too high for a typical pet dog? Of course racing dogs would need a higher %.

Or does anyone have any good links to share?

**this is just an open discussion about all dry foods**

43% is fine. Even lower is fine as well.

You'd need to look at:

The percentage of crude protein in the food

How much you feed.

The weight of the dog.

As far as I can tell, too much protein is not a problem (except possibly in puppies and possibly dogs with existing kidney problems), as long as the other requirements are met.
