Need Some Help!

Hi there,

I am not sure if I am posting in the right place but I have situation where I am hoping I can get some advice.

I live in a block of units of 8 and one of my neighbours loves cats and dogs (as do I).

In the past few weeks or so a ginger cat has been appearing on her balcony and she has started feeding it (wrong I know). It comes every night, never comes in the day time as it waits till it is dark.

I spotted it myself one night but I didn't approach it.

Anyway my neighbour is elderly and her english is not that great but she has told me that the cat has a injured leg, so much so that it leaves blood on her balcony. She would like to take it to the vet but the cat doesn't like being picked up. I asked her if it has a collar and she said NO, so we tend to believe it is a stray.

As of Saturday I have rung my Council, City of Boroondara (Victoria) who are absolutely hopeless. They referred me to the RSPCA and they referred me back to the City of Boroondara.

I also rang the Animal Emergency Centre which they also referred me to the RSPCA.

Anyway bottom line is no one wants to help.

I asked the City of Boroondara to bring a trap so as we can catch the cat, but they want the elderly lady to fork out $46 fee. This woman is on a pension and cannot afford it.

I would love to help but this weekend alone I spent close to $100 on another charitable event.

I thought the RSPCA to some extent would help capture an injured animal if only they left us a trap - I was told they only do that for the City of Monash.

WTF....

I tried to ring the Cat Protection Society today but unfortunately just missed them.

Can anyone suggest what I should do now????

I have been in tears for part of the day because of all the ringing around and getting nowhere and getting one thing said by one person and another thing another person....it is just driving me nuts.

Try not to worry....all you can do tonight is leave out some more food. Try and get a look yourself at it. A little bit of blood goes a long way. Possibly has been fighting? has an abscess? esp if its a street cat/stray.

I would try the vets in your area. One may have a trap or may be able to help?

How frustrating. Go over to www.cat-world.com.au & post on the forum there. Someone who lives in that area may have a suggestion or refer you to a cat rescue.

Oh it has been so frustrating...when I finish work I think I will go and have a good cry.

Vets may have a trap.

At a clinic I worked at we had 2 so you just never know unless you ask.

If not you may be able to make a trap using a bird cage (with a bigger door) if you have one around. Tie a string around a stick holding the door open, put food inside and when cat goes in pull string.

I have caught wildlife like that before. If you know it is going to come around it is a matter of loading the cage, and sitting in wait. This way you can sit inside to do it if its that scared.

My neighbour's son is going to go and get a trap tomorrow from the City of Boroondara and pay for it.

I tried my best Erny, she was a total cow.

I was gonna tell her that when I rang on the weekend and spoke to another chap (nice chap) he was going to bring out a trap, but she had locked them up...go figure. I didn't want to say anything to her about this conversation I had because it might get him into trouble. Anyway he was willing to come out and give us a trap and it it went missing he would fit the bill....now he was a nice guy but he was not in today as he has worked the weekend....I think if he was in he would have still snuck one out for me.

Oh and whilst I was on the phone I was advised that the City of Boroondara had no curfew for cats which I thought we did have and I said, well alot of municipalities have so what are waiting for?

From the minute I got up this morning the day was just a bummer...hopefully my day tomorrow will be more relaxing and no stress.
