CrazyCresties
Just a heads up for those in the market for an editing pc..... I've been thinking for a while about upgrading my 15" laptop for something more powerful and with a larger screen for editing. I have been very tempted by an iMac, but I've been holding out as there are a lot of rumors about a new model due very soon, however Dell have just brought out a new all-in-one 27" beauty :D http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/desktops/dell-xps-one-27-review-50008122/ It's got great specifications, a real nice 2560 x 1440 pixels screen and is $1000 less than a similarly spec'd iMac! Yes I know it runs Windows, but I haven't had any trouble in 2 years from my Win 7 laptop :) http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-one-27-2710-aio/pd Very tempting :D

I am curious? for those that have an imac what is it about an Imac thats better for editing if you are using lightroom or photoshop? or is it more the case that if you want to use mac software like iphoto for your editing because its much better? As far as know lightroom is the same on mac or pc or isnt it? Edited June 8, 2012 by GregW
huga
For me - it's my monitor. It's gorgeous. It also runs much smoother than my old pc (I know - OLD pc). I can run LR and PS at the same time without any freezing or crashing. It just seems 'smoother', if that makes sense?

CrazyCresties
After dithering for a while I have just taken the plunge and purchased one of these spurred on by the $625 off deal I just spotted that runs out tonight! Can't wait to get it now and start editing on such a huge luscious screen instead of my 15" laptop :D Main Specs for those fellow nerds :) It's a beast that will eat RAW files for breakfast and spit them out again so fast  Processor 3rd gen Intel® Core™ i7-3770S processor (3.10 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.90 GHz) Memory 8GB DDR3 SO-DIMM AT 1600MHZ-2x4GB Monitor 27" QHD (2560x1440) Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M 2GB DDR5 Hard Drive 3.5" 2TB 7200RPM SATA + 32GB mSATA SSD(SRT)Memory Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M 2GB DDR5

CrazyCresties
I know it's not an iMac, and I have lusted after one for a while, but Apple are taking so long with news of an updated iMac that I gave up and stuck with Windows. Apparently it doesn't come with much bloatware, but as an IT techie I will strip it down to the essential software and services anyway, so this pc should fly :D Might think about getting PS too, just have LR at the moment, but wonder if it's worth getting PS for cloning etc? Juddabug Whippets
I have Lr and PS ... Only just starting to use photoshop... The things out can do are amazing... I like the look of Photoshop Essentials (PSE)
CrazyCresties
I just looked at the price of PS Would PSE have many more tools than LR, I'm thinking about cloning and content aware stuff? I guess I could trial them and see, but if I go for PS it may have to wait a bit since I just ordered the PC :)
gapvic
CC what did you get and from where? I'm badly in need of a new pc and this one looks great!
CrazyCresties
Good timing gapvic as it just arrived today :D Loving it so far, but I'm still setting it all up at the moment - so much to transfer over! I got the top spec one of these in the end, but it had 25% off on the day I bought it. I have noticed they seem to be rotating the offers through the different spec machines, so keep your eyes open :) http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-one-27-2710-aio/fs I haven't got LR up and running yet, hope to that tomorrow night and then I can really test it's performance. The 27" screen is gorgeous
gapvic
Thanks heaps CC. How is it going? For those here with photoshop, where is a cheap place to buy it?
CrazyCresties
It was going ok until I tried moving my Lightroom folders Luckily it failed about 3rd of the way through as I think I f**ked it up - guess what I'll be doing tonight And apparently I don't learn from my own mistakes http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/222703-argh-lightroom-nightmare/page__p__5376397__hl__lightroom__fromsearch__1#entry5376397 But in general I'm loving the new machine :D Good luck finding somehwere cheap to buy PS, I don't think there is one You can get it cheap if you qualify for teacher or student discount I believe :)
