Rebanne Posted May 30, 2012 Share Posted May 30, 2012 I chipped and vaccinated at 8 weeks last time but that was before I had to send off paperwork with chip numbers. I will most likely do the same in the future and explain why there are no papers ready to go with the pups when they leave home. Vaccination records, registration certificates, a copy of the pedigree, microchip details (which is a state government law), a puppy care and diet sheet should be available to you when or before you collect your puppy. So to me that says I might have to hang to them longer - which I'm not super keen on for development reasons. All my doggie friends might find themselves with an 8 week old puppy to socialise for two weeks. That should make me miss popular ;-) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I got the papers fast tracked last time, and I'll do that again, i think... I held onto pups til 8.5 weeks (so it was the weekend) and they all left with their papers in hand. That should make me miss popular ;-) The VCA has changed their ruling on supplying puppy papers within 14 days of them going to their new home to 30 days to accommodate the chip on the paperwork. But I am not sure if they updated the puppy buyers guide which was something along the lines of what you posted above. I'm quite happy to let my pups go a week after vaccination, I think Jean Dodds says 3 days after is fine. This would also apply to any advertising on dogzonline.... Therefore we can microchip at 6-8 weeks and then send papers off to DogsVic - however in theory cannot advertise prior to the microchip....!!!!!! Another inconvenience for the breeder trying to do the right thing - as well as not being able to have the registration papers for puppies to take home with them. Seriously Dogs Vic really need to address this issue with the State Government and allow for a system of Registration Number for Breeders to be used in any advertising..... Just as any commercial puppy breeders can use their Breeder numbers for adverts prior to having any microchip. When I queried DPI they feel it is still okay for us to advertise future litters but not to state what individuals are available for sale. Therefore any adverts on dogzonline should not be stating what puppies are available unless there is the actual microchip number on the ad. Individual dogs/pups MUST according to the new law, be listed with their chip numbers and yet all you have to do is go look at some breeds in the listings to see that it's not being done. For example, last time I looked about two or three weeks ago at the Cattle dogs..there was not ONE listing of all the Vic residents that included a chip number...I was told that DOL was not 'policing' the advertising....so then....if no one is held responsible, why bother to comply with the rules...and if that's the case, will this law actually matter? I can't tell you how many 'puppy for sale' flyers are pinned around that also don't comply....it's tempting to yank them all down. I hate the 'rule for me and rule for you' mentality! I put in a Litter Notice presented as a "Birth Notice" and stated what had been born and that I would be advising what pups are available for sale with details after their health assessment etc. at 8 weeks. No need for chip numbers until you say the brindle boy is for sale. Fine to say 6 beautiful pups born, some may be available for sale at a later date, without having to put chip numbers in. That was the way I did it for my last litter, it worked well. That's one way too, I know my vet would trust me with them but I'm not sure every vet would trust every dog breeder? mini girl Posted June 1, 2012 Share Posted June 1, 2012 I get my puppies microchipped when I have them vaccinated at about 7 to 7.5 weeks - I always microchipp the whole lot in my own name that way less chance of error and incase any pup not yet ordered - I put their registration papers in, in the new owners name once all have been sold and collected because you cannot register a pup without microchipping. I send or give the microchipping and change of ownership details for the microchipping to the puppy buyer and I sign the change of ownership form (which can be downloaded off the net) and they transfer the pup to thier own name for the microchipping records cost is $7 and no one has complained about doing this. I post the registration papers out as soon as they come back - that way they are all registered in the new owners names - some pups go at 8 weeks when not flying if flying I like them to be at least 9 weeks - so far this has worked for me. I register the litter after that and only when I know who was going where and what I wanted. For advertising list your pups as a litter born. I did not worry about my recent litter in regards to the chip number until the pups are after 8 weeks of age (when we can let them go home - hence they are for sale) and if you do not let them leave till a bit later then that is when you would need to list the chip number as I see it. I currently have two pups still available, they are now listed with their chip numbers and they are 13 weeks old, they did not have that listed until they were 11 weeks old. Re - Rego papers. I explain to puppy people that the registration papers will follow, they are happy for that and I have yet to have a problem. But under Vic legislation I think it will be a while before all breeders and sellers comply with the requirements for chips. Yet another rule we Victorians need to comply with!
