My dog has Conjunctivitis yet again, think its the third or fourth time he has gotten it (first time was approx 8 months ago), and always in his right eye. Mim Posted May 29, 2012 Share Posted May 29, 2012 I don't know about underlying health issues but you can treat conjunctivitis with human eyedrops from the chemist called Bleph-10. karly101 Posted May 29, 2012 Share Posted May 29, 2012 My collie got conjunctivitis a lot... I felt like I was continuously using eye drops! Turns out it was allergy related for him and as he got older the other symptoms were more apparent (itchy/hairloss/swollen nostrils). persephone Posted May 29, 2012 Share Posted May 29, 2012 Did your vet have any ideas? yes, there are quite a few things which cause recurring conjunctivitis ... and are best diagnosed by a vet good with eyes, or an eye specialist . depending on breed , too, there are some things a vet can check. eyes are precious and delicate , and can suffer greatly from long lasting problems ....so if your current vet is no help, find someone else . Ronda Posted May 29, 2012 Author Share Posted May 29, 2012 Thanks for the reply's, haven't taken him to the vet this time because i still have some eye cream/ointment left from last time, so i am just using that. Joey is a whippet (got him from a rescue, so there's no breeder that i can ask about this). Next time I take him to the vet I'll speak to her about it, but she has said in the past that she doesn't know what causes it. If it is an allergy are there any tests that can be done to determine what it is that hes allergic to? Other than his eye begin red and sore he is acting like normal, bringing me his squeaky ball and then running away when i try to take it. :laugh: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Pretty Miss Emma Posted May 29, 2012 Share Posted May 29, 2012 If it's recurring and your vet isn't sure it may be worth a trip to an eye specialist. I'm quick to say visit the eye specialist due to previous dog-eye-issues, but maybe there is something not quite right with drainage, or maybe he has an eye condition that is actually causing it and it isn't simply just conjuntivitis. I'll just recommend here.... Animal Eye Care in Malvern - that's who I used and was very happy with (they also do consults in a few other clinics regionally for basic stuff). There are other eye conditions that have a similar presentation ie dry eye can produce green gunk, and corneal ulcer eye is red and sore looking. ALWAYS get new illnesses checked out, it is not safe to assume you know what it is, and never use old medications. Ronda Posted May 30, 2012 Author Share Posted May 30, 2012 :) I found out that the eye specialist from All Animal Eye Services in Mt Waverley come to Melbourne Uni vet clinic every Thursday so I got Joey booked in for tomorrow afternoon.
