Dancing With Dogs Freestyle & Heelwork To Music

Because she keeps wanting to do "reverse arounds" I have changed that part of my routine to "3 reverse leg weaves" going into "reverse around". Hope I am doing it right...am following what Michelle Piollot instructed, which was side, reverse to heel, heel reverse to side, side reverse to heel again. She is getting better at returning close to position next to my leg, but we don't seem to be moving backwards...just doing it on the spot. I would really like to step back while doing it, but I guess this is only practice. In Michelle's video, she didn't go any further than the foundation moves. I have put the clicker down for this bit & just holding a treat in each hand so I can bring her forward after the reverse, back into heel position. I just didn't have enough hands to hold the clicker as well :laugh:

Just a thought, have you tried to just do two reverse weaves and then click/bridge and treat? Then slowly build up on that. Remember that the reverse leg weaves are harder to do than forward leg weaves. (Oh by the way you are saying that you are stepping backwards and she is still going forwards through your legs?)

No...she is going backwards, between my legs, back & forth between LS & RS heels, but as a team we are not going backwards. I am just stepping back with my off side leg then bringing my feet together after she has passed through & vice versa, so we are sort of doing it on the spot. I am mixing it up, sometimes c & t for one pass, sometimes 2 passes & sometimes 3 passes. But as I said I have now put the clicker down since teaching that "back pass to heel" is what I want & just randomly treating. When I say, bring her forward after the pass, I mean just bringing her head forward a bit so that she is back in heel position before I treat. Otherwise she swings he bum out to the side.

Glad she's going to be OK. Its always disappointing, but as you say, there'll be more comps .. it's lucky you're in Queensland :) .

We're 6hrs away from Qld, but at least we still have access to the Qld mob who are all so helpful and supportive :provoke: like BC4ME

I was disappointed when you couldn't come up but hey there is always another comp :thumbsup:

Although I won't be at the next one at Redlands I will be at the opening night of Les Miserable, one of our students has the role of Cossette so going down to see her :)

I have just made a recording of the music, putting small segments onto a CD & tried it out with her. She just Loooooooooves the music :laugh: trouble is she wants to do her own thing. I think it's because I am rocking to the music she thinks it is a cue to do reverse arounds. I may have to rethink my transitons & cut down on the number of things we try to do as I can't keep up with the music. But so glad to see that she just loves it now that I have put it to music. Opening 15 seconds going well :thumbsup:

Now doing lots of practice without the dog...till I get it right. We are going to have to move quicker though :laugh:

It great to roc all along to the music but you need to be aware of what your hands are doing ie do they look like a hand cue for a trick??? This is probably why she is trying to reverse around you :laugh:

If you can't keep up with the music slow your counts down ie

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 becomes

1....2....3...4....5....6...7....8.. or

&.1....2...3....4....5...6....7....8 just count every 2nd beat it is like running then walking to the same beat if can understand what I mean.

Tassie, have you booked your accommodation for the June Vic dwd comp yet?

ROFL ....yes, kallistar. :-) Ferry booked, accommodation booked ...serious training will start after tomorrow's double rally trial...along with fixing broken UD scent discrimination. Oh, and doing a bit of training for agility weekend next weekend. :-)

I am feeling pretty pleased with both Jim & Tasha atm thumbsup1.gif

to fill everyone in, we had our freestyle starters debut today with Tasha scoring 157.5/180 & 2nd!!

AND

Jim winning the same class, with 159/180!!!!!!

Congratulations Biker Girl...hoping I might be able to join in some day. Everytime my grandkids come to stay, they ask for a "doggie show" before bed. Last night was the first time that I put the music on for the kids "doggie show". Bindi got so excited & did her own thing...showing off her "reverse around" BUUUUUUUtttttt, she was a lot better than before. Cricket got excited & let himself in & then I had a twosome going..one on each side doing simple things like heeling & spinning & leg kicks...I found it hard to keep up with them :laugh: When Bindi wants my attention now, she stands up on her back legs. I will be getting dinner ready & turn around & there she is up on her back legs saying..."look at me, I deserve a treat". It is so good to know that they both love it :)
