kallistar
Nice newspaper spread BC4me I snuck in and got our first leg of novice HWM and have entered again next weekend at the Western Classic. The third leg will see us bow out very gracefully! I am just thankful my boy can heel no matter what I throw at him or ungraceful position I find myself in. So glad that you snuck in here to brag Ptolomy:) and CONGRATULATIONS too on your first pass of HTM N. Can I ask what was your routine to? Got to love our boys who can handle anything that we throw at them :)

Ptolomy
The music was Rock DJ by Robbie Williams for novice and I used Belinda Carlisle Black Book for starters. Bowing out - too hard to teach a dog at 9 1/2 years old, who has been so heavily rewarded for heel position on the left, that I am changing the rules and he now has to heel on the right. Besides there is always one weak link in a partnership and I am sticking my hand up and saying its me I suck at endings! This was our first attempt every back in September. Thanks for sharing your vid and also letting us know what songs you used for your routines :) Have you tried freestyle? I am trying to work out a routine for the young madam. But it wont be until August till we get to share it.
Ptolomy
After my first two obedience dogs I vowed never to teach tricks again as they would do things like throw me play bows when they were on perfect scores or somewhere really appropriate like the Royal Show So dog # 3 came along and he knows no tricks whatsoever and at 9 years of age I attempted to teach him leg weaves and it did his brain in - so no freestyle for us. Good luck with working out your routine - that too I found hard as I am not very creative
ness
Ptolomy I reckon you could manage a starters freestyle routine and without frying Moo's brain. You would have more then enough with what obedience skills he knows . Ducks for cover  Edited February 27, 2013 by ness
Tassie
 Ptolomy. Know what you mean about them throwing tricks in inappropriately. Kirra did it to me in a Club Rally test on Sunday - Station was call front, finish left. She did the call front part - then started doing her favourite trick - backing up away from me - twice. I abandoned the station at that point and took the 10 point IP - the mood she was in, no point in re-trying. Hope she doesn't do it this Sunday - her first go at RAE .. eek - two chances to be a naughty girlie .
The Spotted Devil
For a while there, Em thought agility start line stays were a cue to backwards weave through my legs. I couldn't stop laughing
Tassie
Can only imagine TSD. Miss Kirra, sho doesn't "do" obedience - thinks the start on a Rally course is an agility start - so cue to accelerate from 0 to Mach 3 in 1 second .

Good luck with working out your routine - that too I found hard as I am not very creative But teaching your dogs new things keeps them young :). The other thing to remember is to work to their strengths, not their weakness..NOTE I didn't say to our strengths and weakness roflol And Tux always threw stuff at me through out his obedience career.. and I never taught him leg weaves until two years ago, or even play bows. One of his fave trick was to walk in between my legs or on a flip finish to reach for my nose, so he could give me a sneaky kiss on the way, But there is more too.. One day I might get brave and get the last recording of my HTM routine from a friend who still has the CD and put it on YouTube.. We did We will meet again.. in a Skirt (hate them) and had some of the audience and judges in tears. Just ask Tassie :)

kallistar
I hear alot of people talk about platforms.. What are they and what are they used for? Also can someone explain a "wiggle'? Training has come to a full stop due to the heat, so as you can all guess I am so over the heat.
Tassie
I hear alot of people talk about platforms.. What are they and what are they used for? Also can someone explain a "wigg themgle'? Training has come to a full stop due to the heat, so as you can all guess I am so over the heat. They are really great to use. Michele Pouliot was the first one I heard about using them, so do some googling. And have a look at some Denise Fenzi YouTube clips. Sue Hogben used a perch box too for rear end awareness. Great for obedience and Rally as well, and you can use them inside in the air con if you have it.
