A California woman has taken a two-month-old puppy into her home after seeing it being dropped from the sky by a hawk.

Elaine Bouschard was at her home in Los Banos, south of San Francisco, when she saw the tiny dog slip from the talons of the bird of prey and tumble about 10 metres.

Already an owner of several cats, dogs, horses and even a couple of hawks, Ms Bouschard decided to adopt the pup, naming him TJ Heavenly.

"My thought is that when God drops a puppy from the sky, you keep it," she said.

"If you look here, there's three little clutch marks, right here and when he hit the ground he bounced."

She suspects the puppy was seized from a tip because of his greasy fur.

"If you look at him now, he is so wriggly," adoptive owner Ms Bouschard said.

"I can actually see him wriggling right out of the talons of it."

Ms Bouschard suspects the pup is about eight weeks old.

I certainly hope the poor puppy was a stray and not someone's pet. :( Lucky pup.

I really hope it was a stray because it doesnt sound like they have any intentions of trying to see if someone was just out in their backyard with their new pup and then experianced the horror of watching it get taken by a hawk and having no idea whats happened to it.. :( "god" has funny ways of deciding who needs a puppy >_>

the story has got so much publicity I would think there's a reasonable chance the owners of the pup would hear about it and be able to claim it back if they wanted it.

Yes that's true but it's bad publicity. How many people will read that and think it's OK to keep the next stray dog or cat they find because god thinks it's OK.

That puppy is not 8 weeks old! It would be lucky to be three to four weeks. Look at it's ears.

I hadn't bothered to look at the video until now, I wonder if its eyes are even open, it looks very young indeed, and it's going to be big by the looks of its size already.

My first thoughts were while I was happy for this pup that it was rescued by this kind lady what if it was part of a litter that had been dumped somewhere and left to die?

Agreed. And she'll prbably 'get rid of it' once it gets too big and use the excuse that jesus told her to

What a load of crap! If that pup is 8 weeks old, than I am a monkeys uncle. The poor little buggar would be lucky to be 4 weeks old judging by the pic. :(

I imagine the story would be splashed all over the news in the US, so it's a wonder no one has stepped forward to claim him?

Maybe he was dumped? but still, she should be going to every effort to find his owner instead of just accepting him as a gift from Jesus. *roll eyes* Poor pup. Makes you wonder what sort of home he's landed in.

Well I suppose it better than becoming the meal of a hawk...? Just saying...

If no body has come forward as the owner, then guessing it was from a stray litter or from a backyard where it wasnt missed..

Hoarder... Saver... Fine line to that, if she was a haorder she wouldnt have advertised. Thats not in the nature of hoarders to share or gossip in most cases?

Just shows how people view stories differently :) Here I was thinking this was a good news story for this pup and others think this lady is mental, a hoarder and delusional :D

Many years ago we bought an adorable little white stafford and before we could get him to Canberra he had to be shipped to my sisters place. He stayed there for about 2 weeks with her 2 adult Staffords. One day in the backyard the big dogs were carrying on and it was at a coup,e of hawks swooping on the pup..

Needless to say, he spent the rest of his stay in the smaller covered front yard until he made his way down here..

That is one lucky pup being dropped and saved...

I have had two funny experiences with hawks..

once walking thru gully to my back paddock i was hit by a dead half plucked pigeon... at first I thought that my son had come home and was having a go at me.. but no.. upon my return from checking the ewes dead bird was gone with only a few forlorn feather marking where it had been. I think it had been dropped by a hawk. The second was a large frilly lizard that plumeted onto my car bonnet as i drove along the BV highway..... dropped by a hawk.. lucky lizard survived.
