Different Coloured Eye Reflections?

Hi,

This may be totally normal... but thought I'd ask. Whenever I take a pic of one my dogs with a flash, one eye reflects the normal green colour and the other eye is bright blue. Anyone ever seen this?? Am I worrying about nothing? Will try to post a pic but on an ipad so not easy.

I have seen it, and I wonder why too. I used to see pics of a whippet (not mine) where she had what I call traffic light eyes, one reflected green and one red.

My dogs mostly have green reflections but Howie's are bright blue. Different eye shape maybe??

This happens when I take a photo of my dog too.

I thought it was normal. I assumed it was something to do with the angle that light reflected off the back of the retina.

Edited because I'm doing battle with iPhoto and Photobucket to post a photo. Gah! Going to have a cup of tea instead. Defeated.

Scroll down to the 'eyeshine' heading, has some info :) By my reading, for the blue/green it's probably angle, it it were green/red it would be due to the structure of the eye.

It's mainly due to the tapetum lucidum in the eye which depending on the eye colour of the dog will change the colour reflected in the dark. It's my understanding hat dogs with blue eyes have a thinner tapetum hence the red reflection.

Well, Harley has two solidly brown eyes. So it's not that. I realise green and red reflections are common. Just not sure about green and blue?
