CrazyCresties
I was spoilt and got a new lens for my birthday - the Sigma f2.8 70-200mm EX DG OS HSM :D I took it out for a test run today, so here are some of the first pics - all C&C gratefully received. I am lacking in confidence when it come to post processing, so all advice welcome - be brutal, I can take it  eta - hmmmm they look a bit dark on my iPad, do they look too dark to you? Fun at the local dog beach :D Edited May 14, 2012 by CrazyCresties
CrazyCresties
And some wildlife with a 2x teleconverter on it - I know it's a gamble using the converter, but I'll use it for now until i save my pennies for a 'proper' wildlife lens :) The obligatry duck  Not too bad for 400mm. And I'm glad I had a 400mm reach on for this one - he was a few feet away from the path, so I moved well away and took a few shots. Saw 3 of these today round the lake! kja
Yay a new toy! Looks like you're loving it already Not too dark on my monitor. Love your black & whites.
Kirislin
Love the first one with the flying fluffy ears  Now it might just be my eyes, but I found it hard to see definition in the creamy photos. It was all a bit one colour for me.
persephone
:D great first play ! I like the first shot the best .... personality plus!
helen
Great photos, that first one is priceless, love it. They don't look too dark to me either. How do you find the lens? is it nice and sharp at 100%?
CrazyCresties
Thank you everyone :D Now it might just be my eyes, but I found it hard to see definition in the creamy photos. It was all a bit one colour for me. lol, that's what my OH said, along with 'they're not our dogs' I'm going to go back and have another try at them, it was a preset in Lightroom with my own tweeks on top. I like them, but not 100% sure :) How do you find the lens? is it nice and sharp at 100%? I found it heavy  I can feel round my neck and shoulders that I was carrying something substantial around for a while! I think I'll get a monopod. I'm going to try to do some tests with it today, I didn't get as many keepers yesterday as I would have hoped - but birds plus the teleconverter, and fast moving dogs at the bright beach weren't the easiest of subjects  I'll see if my cat will pose for me today and do some sharpness tests. The duck was at full zoom plus the 2x and I was pleasantly surprised with the sharpness when zoomed in Lightroom. I'm never really sure what 100% means, is that the 1:1 zoom in Lightroom? helen
that is right, if you are in photoshop and view actual pixels that is at 100% too. I have been considering this lens because I wouldn't use it so much to make it worth spending the extra money on a Canon Edited May 13, 2012 by helen
GregW
Awesome pressie, great pics love the first pic with the little one on left in mid air. Btw, what beach is this?
Juddabug Whippets
Oooh, I'm interested in the teleconverter! I have the f4 70-200mm Canon and love it, but almost want more zoom.... Loving your first lot of photos too!
CrazyCresties
MnDM, I think I'm correct, but I believe you loose auto focus if the converter takes your max apature higher than f5.6. Check on POTN as there is a lot of info on there :) Btw, what beach is this? It's Leighton Beach, just south of Cottesloe in Perth :)

CrazyCresties
I liked how this one turned out :) I was testing the teleconverter in my garden and noticed this bug on the aloe plant. 400mm f6.3 1/1600 - just up'd the exposure and sharpened slightly in LR, colours as shot :)

kritta
Umm..... Awesome 1st shots, the look great on my computer screen. I went and had a play with this lens at my local camera shop and then looked at prices on the net, where to buy from... but the sigma is the brand I was thinking and I'm sold now after seeing what it can do!
