Chocolate
Hi, Has anyone ever had an ultrasound done to find whereabouts the testicles are? Can they even be seen on ultrasound? If so at what age did you get the ultrasound done and what was the result. Thanks.
Mystiqview
I would be asking how old the dog is and for what reason you are trying to find the testicles. If they are not down by 16 weeks, then I would be taking them off any breeding prospective. I have heard them come down as late as 12 months, but really, the chances of it then being produced later on is also increased and it is not worth the chance to find out. Pet home. If doing an ultrasound to find them for desexing, I would probably be asking a specialist vet, maybe even a repo vet.
BRUVIC
I've heard of a breeder taking puppies WELL under 16 weeks (to decide which male to run on) to a veterinary teaching institution (where the radiology 'toys' are 2nd to none) to see if pups have retained teste/s and exactly where it/they are situated at that point in time in the abdomen. So obviously, it CAN be done on the right machine ... I think said pups were around the 8 weeks of age mark from memory.
Lowenhart
I start finding testicles from 4 weeks - and by 8 they should be there already. I've had mine confirmed by respected reproduction vets at 4 weeks without any machines. The only dogs that I could not find 2 on at 8 weeks ended up with undescended testicles. The only time I can see the value of a u/sound would be prior to neutering to make the exploratory element of the neutering less invasive.
Christina
No idea however it is not an invasive, painful or expensive procedure so if it helps to find it before surgery that has to be a good thing.

If they aren't down by 6-8 weeks I wouldn't want to breed from the dog anyway. I know they can come down later but that trait is hereditary so you wouldn't want to perpetuate it. Could be very useful before neutering dogs with undecended ones though.
