Alibi Posted May 10, 2012 Share Posted May 10, 2012 I have been researching the next dog to add to the family and am stuck on either a pug or boston terrier. Does anyone have any experience with the bostons? There seems to be alot of conflicting info on them about how they are with other dogs, some say great alot says not so great. My sister has a 2.5kg very sweet chihuahua that the pup would be baby sat with some of the time so it has to be dependable with other dogs and preferably other animals. Temprament wise, Pugs and Bostons are sort of similar. Both are velcro dogs and would react to other dogs depending on how you raise it/train it and its own individual personality! He has the most amazing personality and is so so friendly. He loves my dogs and fits right in. Boston shedding would be different to Pug shedding thou, Pug shedding can be excessive bostons not as much so!!! Pugs are easier to come by! There were all what I wanted in a dog, but Archie came along at the right time, so I got Pugged instead. :laugh: Yes the shedding in Pugs is something to go at, but if its not that big an issue, then go Pug, if it is then go Boston. I think any dog will like other dogs, so long as they are socialised well and get used to them being around. Archie had never been around kids while I have had him (not sure about his breeder), but he loved them, he was more calmer than I expected and seemed to love them. And then there is the question of Fawn or Black (Pug), of which I have also heard personality differs greatly. :) Not forgetting also that each dog is an individual too. You will definitely find a pug easier to come by, and dare I say it, perhaps more to budget (if that's an important factor?) Both are lovely, sweet companions. Some breeds like Lowchens and Cavaliers are highly social animals. But whatever breed you get the odds of it getting along with the Chi are increased with the newcomer being a puppy and spending a good deal of time in each others company. If you want something sparky and terrier-ish get a Boston, if you want something affable with a sense of humour get a Pug. FWIW my Pug doesn't shed at all. After meeting one I just loved the smooth sleek coat, and she was great with my boy Biscuit and a real cuddle bug too. Had quite a spunky littl personality as well...definately on my 'to own' list! The shedding of the pug doesnt really worry me as i figure with my hydrobath and a furminator i may be able to make it not so bad. Im really finding it hard to choose. I have spoken to some lovely boston breeders and it seems it may not be a very long wait depending on sexes in litters. I guess i worry about the quite large amount of negative feedback on the bostons on the net in regards to their temprement with other dogs.
