janisw Posted May 3, 2012 Share Posted May 3, 2012 We are getting a new pup if all goes well and i love her dearly but hate her name. I know 2 other animals with the same name & they are bullet worthy only. (sorry i couldnt describe it any other way (not dogs) Anyway i wanted to keep the same sounding name but i think chinging names is a bad thing so what do i do. anyone else changed a name & not suffered the Karma consequences. lol. her name is trixy & Im thinking of changing it to dixie, its the only thing i could come up with close enough. indigirl Posted May 3, 2012 Share Posted May 3, 2012 In rescue we change dogs name quite often, also any dogs that come from a pound we have to name as we don't know their names. Think of the majority of dogs that find new homes as adults. She'll learn a new one quickly. edit to add - snap Rebanne!! I'm sorry, and no offence to anyone, but.. no. We just can't have that! When I got her it was Misty, but I usd to have a rabbit called Misty, so no can do. Erny Posted May 3, 2012 Share Posted May 3, 2012 Go ahead and change the name - to anything you'd like. A name - especially for an animal, is simply an attention command. Of course, the name acquires a certain emotional attachment by us humans over time. So, "name" + yummy treat, name + yummy treat. keetamouse Posted May 3, 2012 Share Posted May 3, 2012 It takes my fosters to learn their name in 10 minutes, as long as I use happy sounding high pitched noise, making sure they are looking at me when I say the name. I sometimes have them on my lap and have their head in my hands and looking at them use the high pitched sound again, I put them on the floor and then call their name and they react, then repeat it again for the next few minutes.
