emp12
Good Morning All, I have updated Phoenix & Dusty's blog and thought you might like to see how they are doing. They have had their vet work done now and are getting used to missing a few parts but all in all, doing well. Phoenix has had to go back to the vet and get his stitches replaced with staples - ouch! And also get a bigger collar - poor poppet, but l guess thats better than pulling out your staples... naughty boy! Little Gifts
What kind of hormones are on the bandana? I'd never heard of that before but it sounds practical/sensible. The boys are looking so fantastic now!
emp12
What kind of hormones are on the bandana? I'd never heard of that before but it sounds practical/sensible. The boys are looking so fantastic now! Its called Adaptil and it is a natural way to help them relax. See info that l have googled for you... What is Adaptil or DAP ? What do I need to know? Adaptil, formerly know as DAP, is a synthetic copy of canine appeasing pheromone proven to help dogs in a range of stressful situations. The effect of Adaptil has been shown in more than 16 studies published in scientific journals or presented at veterinary conferences all over the world. Most recent studies have suggested that Adaptil may also help adult dogs and puppies learn more effectively. What are ‘Appeasing pheromones’? ‘Appeasing pheromones’ are naturally released by all lactating mammals to comfort and reassure their offspring. In dogs, the canine appeasing pheromone has not only been shown to help puppies, but also to have a comforting influence on adults dogs. Adaptil can be used to: Help promote learning during training and socialisation Help puppies or adult dogs settle in new homes Help dogs to cope with challenging situations such as: staying in kennels staying home alone fireworks visiting the vet travelling Christmas new baby Adaptil can also be used under direction from a vet or behaviourist and alongside training to help in the management of clinical behaviour problems such as separation anxiety, noise phobia, etc. Adaptil is not recommended for use in cases of hyperactivity. I hope that helps... If you are interested in trying it the vet should give you a bandana with some of the hormone sprayed on it to try for free. Then if you think it has the desired result, you can get a collar or room diffuser. E Edited June 7, 2012 by emp12

emp12
Good news! The boys are healthy enough and almost ready for adoption. As you have read and seen in recent blogs, they have had a rough start but progressed well over the last 5 weeks. Vaccinations and desexing has been completed and they are back to 2 meals a day. There have been some separation anxiety problems, but we are addressing that as we speak. Dusty had his stitches out today and Phoenix is now e collar free! If you or anyone you know is interested in these boys, now is the time to enquire. The ideal candidate for these boys will be Whippet experienced. Children are ok as they have been around my two year old who has grown up with dogs. Note: he is not a hugely boisterous child and l am a full time at home mother, so there is always a watchful eye over them all. When you go out, ideally they need to be in an area either dedicated to them i.e. a run or a good, warm secure area they can be put while you are out. Secure fencing is a must as Dusty has managed to scale our fence (after being let out of the house), trying to find me when l have taken the others for a walk. They both have shining personalities. Very different, heart warming to say the least. Dusty has a cheeky disposition and is VERY chatty when he knows something exciting is about to happen - stay tuned, l will try and get this on video. Phoenix (also known ad PPD - Phoenix Puppy Dog) is a little slower to warm to new people. He is a little shy around males, but l would say this is due to the trauma of his past. But, over the weeks he is now staying in the room when my partner comes in and not slinking away to a quiet nook. I will post more photos of the boys in the coming days, this was just an update to let everyone know that interested parties should get in touch with Jane at Iggy Rescue. If anyone has specific questions, l am happy to answer anything you may want to ask. :D
