Schips - big dogs in little bodies, willing to please, very funny, incredibly cute, aloof with strangers unless I approve, trainable ACDs: pretty much the same as schips, except for the little body part :laugh: Beautiful dogs to look at, and both ACD's and schips are incredibly loyal. Least favourite: I think anything from the hound group I could just not live with :laugh: Unlike what many others have said, I like terriers, after my little staffy cross girl - she is an excellent problem solver, and is in her element doing agility and clicker taining....however that could just be from whatever other breeds are in her :laugh: You're right about Schips being funny. My last dog and my other current dog can be pretty serious. I wasn't prepared for what utter clowns Schips are! I just love the look and personality of bull breeds. My old staff who died last year basically ruined me for any other breed. Least favourite breed? I would have said GSDs a while ago but have now met some LOVELY ones who have completely changed my mind about them. So I will just say anything that is small and yaps. (fill in the gap). As I get older I seem to find it more and more difficult to find individual dogs I dislike - and I can't think of one I wouldn't foster if I could. I've always thought of myself as small dog person - and then last weekend I spent time with a beautiful 11 year old big boofa of an Airedale Terrier... and fell in love! And he was huge!! And just recently I've started imagining having a purebreed other than a westie... So for me its about individual dogs and not breeds - as others have said I don't prefer or not prefer breeds... I can fall in love with any individual dog. redangel Posted May 1, 2012 Share Posted May 1, 2012 My Favorite breed : Poodle (no surprise) If I couldnt have a Poodle Dobermann or a Kelpie (Ive owned Kelpies and Dobermanns both are great dogs for trail and obedience)..Id love to have a Whippet, Ive loved every Whippet Ive met :) My least favorite breed........Shih Tzu (they dont capture me as a breed, Ive known a few but they dont have the same drive workwise...Im sure they are nice companion dogs if you like the breed though. I think he has the most amazing smile :D I think that was what got him accepted into the Pets as Therapy program. I love a well behaved, well socialised, intelligent dog that has character and makes you laugh. I love a dog that I can go for long walks with (I feel naked walking without one) and a dog that I can train in many different sports like obedience, tracking, herding, rally-O, retrieving, agility. But I also like a dog with an "OFF" switch, which is capable of just chilling on the couch when required. I do prefer bigger dogs to smaller dogs and dogs from the working/utility groups, as long as they are not dogs that fit the description below. I don't like dogs that jump on people, dogs that lunge/bark/attack whenever you go near or past them, dogs that bark or whine excessively (especially high pitched), dogs that are demanding or pushy, dogs that are untrained, poorly socialised and are unaccustomed to boundaries. Anatolian, Central Asia [no surprise]. Least Favourite - idiotic little dogs, hyperactive, either chi's, poms, some staffys, SWFs - basically if it's little and hyperactive and no brain, I don't like it. I saw someone walking along Blaxland Road, Ryde at 8am one morning last week with a pitbull running along ahead of them. My thoughts were wondering what would happen if someone with another dog, let alone a small dog, came along the same path. If I saw that I would crap myself as I would be expecting the worst. With so many attacks I don't like to see any other dog coming towards me with no collar or other means of control. I'm not so worried about small dogs - it occasionally happens but generally it is larger dogs and my dogs have been attacked without provocation. Yes. I apparently own "yappy" "snappy" "anklebiters" but can't take them to Sydney Park for a nice walk because they get rushed or trampled by larger dogs who are exactly what people generalise my guys to be. Note, no predominant breed is mentioned for fear of being labelled a BSL supporter or breed hater which I am not. I just can't handle anymore close calls. People should be allowed to say they feel uncomfortable, that doesn't mean they are ignorant or media brainwashed. Interesting to see small dog owners like big and small dogs but most big dog owners aren't a fan of the little guys. Only getting to that conclusion from the information posted above. The dogs that are least suited to me at the moment are those that generally need more prolonged exercised in order to be happy. So working breeds are probably my "least favourite" in terms of suitability. However, when I have more time, I would love a dog that would be able to accompany me on whole-day hikes. Favourites would have to be LGD's and Aussie Shepherds (I have both :)) closely followed by APBT, you can't beat a fit, red nosed pit bull and the only reason we don't have one is that we live in VIC. Also love Staffords, Amstaffs, Airedales, Danes, Bernese Mountain Dogs and Pugs. I really could go on though! I love everything and never judge a dog on it's breed, small or big. I don't have enough broad dog experience to specifically pick out others, but theoretically I also love pointers, the larger spaniels and other retrievers. Least favourites: SBTs. Anything small enough to be held in both hands - small dogs feel so fragile! SWFs. Mainly due to the aforementioned size issue, but I'm not fond of their coats either. Don't particularly like the poodle coat either, but I hold my judgement on the wider breed until I've met a Standard: I have a feeling I'd like them. I've met stunning Rotti's, socially stable Amstaff's, bold SWF's with great nerves. I've also met horrible examples of the more 'accepted' breeds.
