I'm going to put Penny on Meloxicam and it's around $110 per 100ml. juice Posted April 19, 2012 Share Posted April 19, 2012 I get mine from Canada, but i think it has to be ordered from there or the USA, luckily my family live in the uUS, so they order it and ship it to me, about 1/3rd of the price.( ironically its actually sourced from Australia, so it has to go to the USA and come back!) try googling it, and see what you get. My dermo vet gave me a prescription for ABs for Kuma, we got the generic version and paid $30 for his whole treatment which would have cost us over $100 from the vet. I checked MIMS (the book that lists all drugs available) and can see that there's a couple of versions of Meloxicam available... can't hurt asking! stormie Posted April 19, 2012 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Unfortunately your Vet technically isn't meant to write you a script for human equivalents if there are already veterinary specific medications available. I've heard of some vets writing their clients scripts for Mobic, which is the human Meloxicam, but my understanding is that this is a no no with the Board and they could get into strife for it. Perhaps have a work with your vet about some of the other NSAIDS available and see if a generic might be more cost effective. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
karly101 Posted April 19, 2012 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Buying overseas doesn't it get seized by customs here? Whenever I've bought shampoos or vitamin supplements for my ferrets they get seized. Vets are meant to prescribe the animal product if there is one available. You can always ask for a script and go to your pharmacy - most vets I know will charge for a script if it is not done in a consult as it does take some time to write one. Pharmacies are able to purchase a lot of products SO much cheaper than vet clinics who must purchase from veterinary suppliers. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I it up to the phsrmacist how the cost doggie drugs. Yours is marking up. I get ALL of mine at human script pricing so Mobic is $23. If you live somewhere with several pharmacies you might try shopping around. I got stuck in Crookwell during the floods and needed to fill emergency scripts and still did way better than $60 and Crookwell only has two pharmacies that I saw. Ollie had 3 scripts that the vet wrote for us and we used to get filled at the chemist... The chemist was a fair bit cheaper as they have bigger buying power than a vet.. How come they dont get seized at customs? Anyway, I went to the chemist and the bloke there said his boss might have an account with Troy (the distributor) and if so might be able to get it in for me but I've got to go back tomorrow when he's in. I get antibiotics and eye drops on a prescription and have it filled at Chemist Warehouse. :) They are pretty cheap, and I am sure they do prescriptions online as well. I think it cost me about 1/4 of the price that it would have if I'd bought the veterinary versions. mish13 Posted April 20, 2012 Share Posted April 20, 2012 (edited) One of my dogs is on Atopica which is costing us $100 for 15 tablets, I am now buying them from California Pet pharmacy and they are costing me $25 for 15 tablets. My dog,s dermatoligist had to write the script which luckily he did. I emailed the pet pharmacy to find out what information was needed to be on the script, once I had that I just scanned it and emailed it to them. Yes, if there is equivalent the vet can write a script. I get scripts made for the dog (not person) and there are no problems with getting the pills from the local chemist shop.
