Kirislin
this is all another language to me, I wish I understood. I dont know if you use the Canon programs that come for free with your 7D. They're actually pretty good, you can adjust WB, clone, straighten, correct lens aberration, reduce noise, sharpen and play with curves plus lots of other stuff. Linda, I've not used the software that comes with the 7D. I will put it on my new computer. I couldn't put it on my iPad. So excited cos tomorrow I open the box! Juddabug Whippets
Pretty much! Lol! I finally got it out of the box at 4pm, had to download the updates and then updated my iPad.... That took until midnight! Spent time whilst it was updating just reading, reading, reading..... I've not got on there today... But did buy Mac office today so have to install it! I did look at Photoshop Elements and CS5! For those of you with CS5, did you get the student version or full version? And how? I was told they want to verify if you're a student before giving you the code!? Does Lightroom do layers? Unsure which photo editing program to go for! Guest Tess32
What kind of editing do you do normally? As in, do you mostly do level adjustments etc or...?
tlc
You have to be a student and have a student card before you can get any program at a student discount. I got LR and PS when I did my photography course and used my student card so it was heaps cheaper. I never use PS now I only use LR, I don't even know what layers are? are layers necessary? What am I missing out on? You won't be sorry if you get Lightroom, download a trial and try it out, it is super easy to use.
tlc
That's interesting at my harvey Norman they wouldnt sell to me without the card to ID that I was a student.
Juddabug Whippets
Hey there! I mostly just sharpen, crop, adjust brightness. But was wanting more design functions as I am working on websites too and use layers to make banners. Right now I do all my editing on iPad apps! Still downloading things on my iMac, yet to give her a name though! I went and purchased office Mac and loving the publisher features it has! Brilliant for upgrading our racing club race books! I have gone to Adobe and am downloading the free trial of cs5, thought at the end of the 30days I'd try Lightroom, then ps elements....
piper
I bought the student version of ps elements from Harvey Norman and they didn't ask for any ID. How did you go with registering it? We bought the student version PS and Lightroom and it didn't come with the code - it came with information on how to get 1 and for that we had to scan a copy of hubbys academic transcript or my pay slip (I work in education) and email that to a special verification email address after which they emailed the code. Until then it was effectively a 30 day trial disc.

However if you want extra design stuff with layers and making banner type stuff. You'd probably be best with Lightroom + Photoshop Elements. tlc
I got a program called print shop it's pretty good for design type stuff, might be a bit light weight or you. I think there is a program that is only for Mac it comes with the package but I can't remember what it's called, maybe pages or something like that. I'll check tomorrow. We only got it late last year, maybe it is a change they have made to prevent that?
Juddabug Whippets
I downloaded the full version of cs5 on the weekend, it is great! Full version and cost me a fraction of what it was at the store! I might get Lightroom too

Juddabug Whippets
CS5 is Creative Suite, it has photoshop plus other design software, illustrator, fireworks and dream weaver. Hoping to get a chance to really spend time on it tomorrow!
