Hi there,

Titan my nine month old Pure Bred AM Staff has a mean case of papillomas warts all around his mouth and most recently i have noticed a few appearing on his tongue.

I have consulted with several vets and family friends and so far this is the information I have received -

They will fall off in x amount of time ( which they haven’t it has just gotten worse ) and upon taking him back to the vet i was offered a surgical procedure to cut or laser them off which i would prefer to be a last resort.

Give your dog vitamin supplements and fish oils (No noticeable changes in the warts) but his coat is nice and shiny.

Any advice or other treatments that have been successful for anyone?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Have you thought about going to see a specialist? I'm sure if you ask on here, someone will know of a good one in your area :) Going to a specialist means that they will have more experience /knowledge of that particular problem, and should be able to be of more help.

best of luck with it.

hopefully someone will be able to provide me with some information because i looked it up on a google search and found nothing.

So basically anywhere in or around the sydney area would be fine.

have you consulted your breeder?

Oh yes i forgot to mention that.

The breeder provided me with 3 shots i forget the name of the product but it hasn't really had a effect to the warts and also she provided me with some tablets but same deal.

In addition we use to attend dog training ( until Titan got the warts) and the rest of his litter attend the same training and none of them had any health/viral issue's so its not the breeding kennels..

Have you googled "Canine pappilomavirus"?

A fair bit of info, if it is of any use I don't know.

There is a lot of information on the net - like Human Papilloma Virus this can be contagious so if he has a confirmed case I would separate him from other dogs if possible. It can be passed on in general play. The only injections I know of are similar to the HPV vaccine for people and are to prevent spread - not actually treatment for an already infected animal. If you google Canine Papilloma Virus or CPV you will get more info, personally I would press your vet for a referral to a specialist if you can. Hope it clears up quickly and he is ok.

My guys have just had it - the puppy got a wart on his face and them in his chops, Asti had two in her chops. They look like bits of cauliflour?

I squeezed Asti's (before I knew what they were) and they fell off the next day - or she scratched them off. Angus' have finally disappeared after about 7 weeks. Our vet wasn't overly concerned and no other dogs that Angus came in contact with seemed to get them (this was before we knew what they were). Our vet said that you can take stuff from the inside of the wart and inject it back into the skin for the body to fight the virus faster but we decided to see how it went.

I was worried that they would get them in their throats but luckily the warts stayed on their chops!
