I can understand this posters thoughts though - someone new on the forum asking for funds straight away within their first few posts. Esp with the amount of scamming going on these days. To be honest, something like this was running through my head until one of the DOLer's I'm familiar with said this was legitamite.

I have met Jessie, she is a beautiful girl, who is cat safe, great with other dogs, and is lovely with children, her suitability for rehoming is beyond question.

Jess herself has spent hours sewing collars and coats to raise money for this surgery.

The local media has been contacted, but to no avail.

She has been desexed and vaccinated, she had never been to a vet before Jess took her for her vaccs.

Hopefully she will be coming to live with me after the surgery, I have put as much as I can afford at this time towards her surgery, with the consideration that there will be more vet bills in the future.

I will be getting her assessed for her green collar by GAP if I am lucky enough to have her join my family.

Jess is in the process of organising a bbq at Bunnings, she is trying all avenues to raise the funds, not just 'begging'.

That's an excellent way to make donations, via the treating vet. It also serves as a legitimacy check.

BTW, I'm a great fan of greyhounds. We've lived next door, for many years, to a man involved in greyhound racing, but who really loves his dogs. I've never known a greyhound to be in his care that wasn't the sweetest natured dog & a delight to have as a doggie neighbour.

What some people forget is that there is many dishonest people in the world which makes it hard sometimes to see when people are being honest in asking fordonations. Heck there was a thread recently about someone using a well known DOL users rescue ads to try and scam money.

Take a look from it this way. A new members FIRST post is asking for donations of money. You know nothing about the poster other than what they've told you in their post. To me, without knowing what we now know, had my alarm bells ringing. You can't blame people for being on the defensive in these circumstances. Maybe DeadWombats post was a little harsh, but I can see both sides, and initially had similar thoughts.

My post was not meant to be hurtful or upsetting (I think it's mine being refered to in your quote TrishM???) if it was, then I apologise to the OP.

It was Deadwombats post that I was referring to, it was very harsh and uncalled for.

I do understand that there are dishonest people in this world and it is a sad reflection on society today that we feel this way, but the fact that donations can be made to the Vet concerned should allay any fears that anyone may have.

The Vet involved in Jess's care has been so caring and generous, it is enough to restore ones faith in human nature.

Beyond unfunny a very poor attempt at humour Good luck Jess with the beautiful Jessie.I too know how much you are putting into this girl having the wonderful life she deserves and you too Trishm.I second dogmad's suggestion of the media.Charlie Pickering from the show The Panel is a massive dog lover and has had not only greyhound stories on the show but all sorts of dog stories.Maybe a long shot but hey they can only say no.All the best.

Who is that judge from dancing with the stars? Todd mckenney or something? He is a masssive greyhound fan too and I've seen him on morning shows promoting the adoption of greys, so an email or contact to him might be worth a shot also.

Yes you are right Donatella he is a spokesperson for GAP if I remember rightly.He has adopted two greys.

That's good, but it would have been nice to hear what all the avenues are. The Bunnings around here have very long waiting lists or ballots to have a BBQ. Hopefully it is easier to organise one where you are.

I really do understand where people are coming from. I have been posting Jessie's story everywhere and simply asking for help. Some people dont understand that if you donate $1 or $2 it goes so far. We are just asking for some help. We are organising a fundraising BBQ outside PETstock. I also make dog collars and coats in my spare time and all of the money made goes to Jessie. We are almost half way there.
